I am fostering 11kitties, and have 2 of my own.
I need something VERY affordable, as well as not stinky to use as a cat litter.
I dont know if I am better off going cheap and dumping all the time , or going expensive and keeping it longer,
Any input would be nice.
I cant stand the smell anymore..
Thanks

I use the scented clumping litter, I think it is ExquisiCat at PetsMart for about $11 for 40 pounds. I have four cats, two litter boxes.

I recommend Tidy Cats Multiple-Cat Scoop, its not terribly expensive and it seems to control odor very well, plus it clumps pretty hard.... I've also heard rave reviews for Arm & Hammer, I'm going to pick up some of that tonight to try

HI Feline Pine works for us. It dont clump but you just scoop the poop out and the pee breaks the pellets down to sawdust. Your house smells like pine instead of cat pee or perfumes in the litter. Where we live a 20 pound bag is 9.99 and lasts me almost a month with 5 cats. I also have been told that you can use wood burning stove pellets thats the same as feline pine and its 5.99 for a 40 pound bag alot of lowes and home depot carry them. I was going to try it but the lowes and home depot in my area is some of the ones that dont carry it. But if I ever find a place that carry them I am going to try it. I had a breeder tell me that she likes it better than the feline pine.

I use Purina Layena Chicken Feed. It is ground somewhat fine and works very well for keeping odor down and it does clump.
It costs me $8.50 for a 50 lb. bag and goes a long way.

When I first started using the chicken feed it was more of a pellet form and it clumped and worked ok, but since they have been grinding it finer I've been very pleased with it.

No, it hasn't attracted bugs in my house and the cats are just fine with it.

I have to confess that when the chicken feed was more of a pellet than a ground product I tried some Nature's Miracle after reading about it here and I liked it so much I've taken to using it in my two boxes upstairs, but I can't imagine that cost for the 9 total boxes that I maintain.

Found out recently that wood pellets are also used as horse bedding. The hardware/building supplies stores around me do not appear to carry wood pellets as well, but a local grain and feed store did carry pine wood pellets, for use as horse bedding. I have not made the switch yet, but the 40 lb bag of wood pellets cost ~ 8 dollars (which is much cheaper than the current cat litter my cats are using). If you are going to try this route, be sure that the pellets are made of pine. Wood pellets used for horse bedding, apparently, can also be made of cedar.

(apologies in advance if this post does not look right. I am new to this board, and have not figured out how the auto signatures and smiley faces work)
