I have been researching the breed a lot found a lot of sites i've looked under search on here for Bengal information etc. So i've been doing a lot i heard that it takes a lot of research and information to find out if a Bengal is a good idea. Well as you know i have 2 siamese kittens so i know how energetic cats can be
. But i first got interested when my friends boyfriend was looking Bengals up on the internet for sale. They looked so pretty but i know that can fool you in to paying outragous money on a "pretty" pet. I was thinking if i was just going to play around see what there like but they really sound interesting and i might check around for local breeders. I talked to Troy and he really doesn't care
, so i looked around and they just sound amazing.

They are a cross between domestic cats an the Asian Leopard. Which is a wild animal but there not mean at all just very hyper and like to play. I get that like i said have siamese kittens lol..
i know all about crazy kitty's. But there so pretty that you just got to look twice before turning the page, i just want to make sure i'm not getting to excited about looking at kittens. What do you OWNERS think? Be honest are they what you were hoping for, are they to hyper, have you had them around children. Breeders what do you look for in buyers? Do they every get to crazy and start to make you crazy? How about vet bills do they rank up the insurance, are they good with other cats. I need more than online information i want to know from people that own them what they think. I need more people to tell me what there like, pictures? Warnings?

I really like there color, there temperments sound fine, but really are they a favor to some people. Have they ever been to outragous to every be put down, are prices on them crazy. Have you seen people with them a lot, are they just a good addition? Do you have more than one, and why? How often do you do vet checks what do you look for in a Bengal? I'm looking for pet quailty so what cost an i looking at. What kind of food do you feed? I have a million questions lol so just give me all the information you got.

Hi Kitty Paws

I am just new to this site and this is my first post. I have 2 Bengal kittens now 4 months old..boy and girl same litter called Raja and Rani (means King and Queen). They are the tabby brown ones with just stunning markings and look very exotic...when I learn how to put up photos I will do as they are so beautiful. I got two so that they would be good company for each other also they are indoor cats and I'm at work all week. I have had a catnip enclosure built out in my courtyard which leads from the house via a series of aerial tunnels to a main base that has steps and a hammock plus separate toilet area. They just love it and they feel free as its all made of fine wire...not only that they get heaps of exercise negotiating the different gradients of the tunnels..some even run through a hedge so it gives them a jungle feeling. They are very intelligent kitties but be warned....very active and love interaction and I believe they are like that for life. Fortunately they like to sleep just like other cats. My advice if you decide to buy is to make sure the kittens have been fully socialised with the family members. Mine were only taken inside the family home (from a cage) a week before I took them and they were very wary infact it took them a few weeks to adjust. Now after giving them much love, cuddles and kisses they are demanding to be cuddled...such a relief as I thought they might remain very aloof. They are very hardy little animals so will only be the normal vet cost re vaccinations etc.

I hope this helps and please dont hesitate to ask if you need any more information.

Maybe its because I'm a...
Mine (Tilly) is only a Bengal cross, but she's so far seemed typical of Bengals in general. She's very smart and into Everything, her favourite thing to do is open cupboards and pull out everything inside onto the floor. She also likes to sniff and tread on food you're trying to prepare, and is inconsiderate when it comes to people's laps. However, she's So soft!
she plays fetch and hockey, she's agile, learns very fast and can jump like a flea. She's always willing to play, even if she's so tired she's almost falling asleep on the spot
She's probably bomb proof, and she's always happy to see you. I don't know if this is typical of bengals but she's quite small for a kitten and I was told that she was underweight for her age, even though she's a normal weight for her size.
Basically if you like a stunning cat with lots of energy and you are willing to get out the ribbon and bottle caps for them every night then its worth it

During her 'fuzzy' stage

I have 2 Bengal's, and one of them came from Kai Bengals. My boy Simba is a delightful holy terror, although he does have his mellow moments, when he's sleeping. He's so funny and so unique personality wise, that I just get so much so out of having him in my life. He is 3 1/2 now, and he still acts like a kitten. He's in to everythng, is very smart, and extremely affectionate, even though he's not a lap cat. He's the boss of the house, basically. By that I mean he's the Alpha cat, but he's a good natured alpha. Nothing really bothers him. He's happy go lucky, good natured, and a real stinker at times to the other cats. He loves to pounce on them, and if they get upset, that makes him want to do it more. It's all fun and games to him. My girl Bengal is much more mellow and laid back. She loves to talk to me, but she's not naughty like Simba. She's a very well behaved, very sweet little lady.

Basically what everyone said is true. Many of them are very energetic but not so much when they are adults although they are still active as adults but not as nearly as much as when kittens. They generally are very social and outgoing too. Just make sure the breeder socializes them well.
I also feed raw chicken because of the health benefits but many bengals do ok on regular commercial food. They are great with children and other animals as long tas they are introduced properly. Pet bengals run from about $500.00 to $1000 depending on quality and where your located. Im in California so I really can't help you. Im not sure where Kai bengals is located. Maybe closer to you. His kitten prices are good and the quality of his cats is good.
If you have any other questions you can email me privately. I also have lots and lots of info about bengals on my website at http://www.littleleopardcats.com
Im always adding info as well.

Bengals are one of the most gorgeous breeds that I have seen. I have a relative that got 4 of them, he was going to breed. It did not work out well for him. None were especially friendly or affectionate. They all seemed to do very well together, but were not very social with people or other animals. They didn't seem to enjoy being picked up at all.

From what little I know, a great deal of research and being very careful in selecting a breeder that spends alot of time socializing their Bengal kittens is very important.

I wish you all the best luck.

I agree with you on the picking up thing. Most of my bengals do not like to be picked up, however, they are the most friendlist, attention hungry cats ever! I think any cat is unsocial if not socialized at a young age. There are some though that are just born not very social. It just depends on the cat.

Out of curiousity I looked up the CFA Retired Friends Breeders page (for what cats breeders needed homes for). I noticed that on almost Bengal that the description said "no other cats, dogs, children". Seems that those bengals just were not socialized.

Are these breeding cats like that? Used for breeding ,a little showing and then retired without socialization? Do the breeders just socialize the kits and not bother with adults? Or is it the fact you have the wild blood in them?

What am I missing here about the breed?

I find it really strange that there would be any bengal breeders listing retiree's for sale on a CFA site. We're not even allowed to register with CFA.

Anyway, I can only speak for my own retired cats. Each one is different and will have different requirements, but I've only had one girl, that didn't like other cats very much, unless they were bengals as well. She is very clique-ish. In my 9 years of breeding bengals, I have retired at least 10 adults and they all went to regular homes, with either kids, other cats, dogs or any combination of those.

Those ads you saw may be referring to EG bengals, which sometimes do require special homes, because they are only 1 or 2 generations removed from the wild.

Yeah Kai's right if there EG's then that would be a good reason since there not far removed from the actual wild blood. If they were around 4 generations down i see no reason why they shouldn't be good around other animals/kids?

I believe all of the bengals involved were show ones or had been shown. I can check the site again and give the url for you all to check out.

I just found it kinda strange from what you've said about your cats.

Ok here's the site:

http://www.breedlist.com/retired/ben-ret.html

CFA used to have a link to the retired friends (where I first found it) so it must have been changed to include all associations. The bengals are TICA

Usually rescues have issues. I would just say that probably it's just these cats that are like that. Most of my bengals get along well with eachother except when the females are in heat and males that are not neutered. All of the young cats get along before they reach sexual maturity. My young stud who is now just reaching maturity is trying to nurse my 4 month old kittens. He loves it. He treats them like his own offspring. He lets them try to nurse him even to the point that his nipples get scabbed over.
