I'd enter Tyler into this challenge, but he'd lose..no doubt about it! I wish the "I'm hungry" fairy would come tap Jake and Tyler on the tummy and get them going!

Guess what??!!?? I just came back from taking Jake in to weigh him at the vets and he is 8.2 lbs!!
I couldn't believe it! OMG I was so happy, I can't even tell you!

So I think it was MOnday I took him in and he weighed 7.2 lbs. Down a fraction from the 7.4 lbs the Thursday before. Anyway... he finished his antibiotic around Tuesday and I checked his temp which was 100.4. So I think this is normal for a cat.
Then I noticed he started eating A LOT once he'd been off the antibiotic for a day. Maybe it made him nausiated? On Wednesday night I got him to play with the laser. Ok, so it was only for about 30 seconds but it was more movement then I'd seen out of him for weeks! Wednesday night and Thursday he was much more active, eating pretty well and back sleeping in his spot on the left hand lower corner of my bed.
Today I came home and he was jumping and climbing the cat tree and then he played with a string toy with me for a minute.
So then I took him to the vet and that's when I weighed him!

He's lost some fur in a couple places. That's what he did last time he was so gravely ill as well. So I think that will come back yet once again. He's still a little boney. I guess it will take a little more time? Normally he's around 9.5-10 lbs so he still has a little way to go and plus I imagine after weeks of being inactive, he's lost muscle. I don't know, he didn't get skinny and boney like this before and I don't have experience with this. But I'm happy and he seems to be well on his way and 8.2 is better then 5.8!
I want to give him a bath but I think I should wait. He looks kind of scruffy from getting medicine and wet food from syringe feeding in his fur. So you think I should wait? I'm afraid he'll get too cold since he is still boney and a little under weight. I can handle him looking scruffy another couple weeks. I'm just happy he's alive!

AW,Tammie! That's great news!!!
I'm no expert on bathing, but if it were me, I'd wait and just not tell him he looks scruffy.

Way to go Jake
- I knew that he wouldn't let a girl out eat him. The antibiotic can really mess with their stomachs.

Good advice! And I won't tell him... afterall he's beautiful to me even when he's a little dirty and boney!

Thanks guys! Jake is getting lots of hugs and kisses today! Poor guy! I forgot to tell you that he's back to his favorite activity. I have a glider and he likes to sit on the gliding ottoman in front of the TV and watch the CNN news ticker!
He started doing that yesterday morning again too!

Tammie, it's great that there has been such a significant improvement! WTG, Jake, just keep on eating, sweetie.

Thanks everyone!

I need some opinions. I've been supplementing Jake's diet with 20-30 cc of wet food mixed with the high cal supplement and some transfer factor twice a day. I'm afraid to stop these supplements because I don't know if he can or can not maintain and keep gaining by eating on his own. Yet I don't want to keep doing them too long because he's not real fond of them now that he's feeling a little better. I was thinking maybe I should keep them up maybe until he gains another pound and then cut back to half until he gains 1/2 lb. What do you guys think? I'm just thinking that if he gets up to around 10 lbs then I can try him on no supplements for a week and see if he maintains. Or do any of you think I should just try to stop them now? The vet isn't being very helpful in this area. She is kind of vague and tells me whatever is fine. I'm not very impressed with her. Guess I need to find a different vet sometime soon!

I don't know what to tell you. I'd probably continue the supplements till he got up to 10 lbs. or so, and then gradually taper off, and see if he manages to maintain his weight. That's just my "instincts", though, and has no "scientific" basis.

That would be my inclination, too, but equally "just instinct".

That was my instinct too. I posted some pictures of Jake today in the More Really Cute Persians thread. Today when I went to pet him, I could barely feel his spine so I know he's getting back muscle and still gaining!
