What are you using it for? When I was giving Spot lysine for a possible herpes issue, I just used tablets from the human section and ground them up. The dose should be between 250 mg and 1000 mg, so I'd check with your vet to see what dose would be best for your babies.

My vet advised me to give Jelly human-grade Lysine for a chronic herpes-rhino-snotty thing he had...I just ground up the pills and dusted one on the dry food as directed by the vet/sister in law

It really didn't seem to make much difference, but at least I was trying. I don't think that Lysine is something that is potent enough to harm...but your mileage may vary. As noted above, check with your vet

L-lysine is harmless to cats. I use a gel that is specially formulated for them, but suspect it's just a vet-packaged human variety. It is in a gel form, not a tablet, so I give Gizmo her dose every morning. I know that it works.

I was advised by my vet to use the lysine but id rather buy it in bulk than from him. I was using the gel from him in the tube but its too expensive for 4 cats. so i bought the bulk in powder form to go in their food

I bought the bulk powder when I was feeding many, many ferals. It was something like $10 for a pound.
Now the feral population is down and I only have one cat needing L-Lysine so I got some gel from the vet. I plan to buy the Viralys online in the future from Cal Vet Supply for a much cheaper price than my vet sells it.
