I'm on the other side of the State...just outside of Pittsburgh.

Just have to add that when I went back and read this whole thread and saw "Sodie" it made me laugh, because when I was a little girl there was this little corner store three doors down from our house and everytime we'd go in there the old man that owned the store would tell me to go get myself a "sodie pop".
I forgot all about that

A majority of Ohio uses "pop". I know that "soda" is DEFINATELY a Pennsylvania thing because my family and Trav are from PA and say "soda". I have always heard around Pittsburgh or thought anyways and my family is from Pittbsburgh. Trav is from Altoona and also calls it "soda"

I have grown to call it either "soda" or "pop"

Everything is a coke to me. I guess that is because I am a georgia girl. My family from indiana calls it pop and it drives me crazy!

Everyone in Philly says soda, unless they're being brand specific: "hunny can you get me a diet pepsi/sprite/mt dew please?!" But my family in Pittsburgh all says pop.
(Pop here is music, like Britney Spears
)

growing up in the south, all carbonated drinks were called cokes. people would ask, "what kinda coke do you want?"
as an adult, i've switched to calling them sodas for the sake of clarity.

Wow, I am SO all alone in calling it tonic!!!

Here's an important question for you all: Why are sodas called "soft" drinks? What's so soft about them???

I can see why something would be called a "hard" drink, if it has booze it it - because the floor is hard when you hit it after drinking too much, LOL.

Are they called soft only because they have no booze in them?

I am from Canada and I have never heard anyone here call it a soda. When I was in New York and when I was in Florida, it was always soda or soda pop. Thats what menus all said. Menu's here usually say soft drinks, but everyone calls it pop.
