hi, im new to this sight my cat fizz is 4 years old, she is jet black and now very pregnant, we never had her seen to as she is a house cat but she escaped and well now we got babies on the way. so she visiting the vet as soon as possible after babies are born, by our calculations she is due around the 5 november but she has started climbing into the bottom of my wardrobe, she is suddenly becoming very loving, her usual greeting is a bite or a slap with her paw if you try to cuddle her. she is lying around and isn't as active as normal and she isn't eating as much. i have also noticed her teets are swelling and the area around them are now totally hair free, could this mean she is ready to go into labour.i have done loads of searches but have not found much that was really helpfull. i have seen cats in labour before, i had to deliver 2 of my sisters cats kittens by hand as mum was too exhausted and was stressed so the vet talk me through it on the fone but i have no idea how to tell if a cat is getting near and my sister had no idea her cat was pregnant until it started having kittens on the kids bed so she is no help.
i have been reading through some posts and it seem like you guys know what your talking about so any advice would be great and very much welcomed. thanx

hmmm I'm sorry I am not much help except for two things I know... Make sure she is eating a high quality kitten food, she should have been since she got prego, but needs to up until the babies are weaned. The other thing I know is to make sure she stays indoors until the kittens are born and she can be spayed. Make sure that gets done too for her health and so she lives a long healthy cancer disease free life. It can be done when the kittens are 8 weeks old and then all the kittens can go in to be spayed and neutered as well. If she has never been to the vet, you might want to have her tested since she has never had vaccinations I assume. She may be carrying something or have FIV or soemthing. The tom could have been ill or carrying god knows what disease. So she really shouldn't be having any more babies after this.

Good luck!

Cats can start to nest a few weeks early.....the best sign of impending labor is that she will produce milk a few days before giving birth.

I realize that your girl escaped and became pregnant...you need to ensure that she is securely indoors only from this point until she has had the kittens and is able to be spayed. Best to have her in a room that has 2 doors between her and the outdoors.

You will want to follow the advice in this post:

It's also helpful to know where you live in case you require assistance.

One for sure sign that your cat will give birth within the next 0-48 hours is to check her privates for a discharge, is should be clear or pinkish. That is a definate sign that she has gone into the first stages of labor, next will be the contractions, then birth.

Also, the discharge should not be brown, green, or smelly, if so, take her to the vet, that is a BAD sign.

If she is a first time mother than she may go to the litterbox a lot when she is having her first contractions because she might confuse them with a need to go to the bathroom so keep an eye out for that or she may accidentally give birth to a kitten in the litterbox.

Good luck with the kittens and please post some pics when they are born.

hi sorry it took so long to reply, fizz has been to the vet, i like her to get a check once a year and although she is a house cat we got her vaccinations just to be safe, we now know exactly when she was caught as when i told one of my neighbours that she was pregnant she informed me she saw it all happen but forgot to mention to us. so we know who daddy is aswell, i have spoke to his owners and he has been vacinnated upto date so hopefully all should be ok and going by the new info, she is 63 days on thursday the 2 november so my calculations were not far out. dad is orange and white striped so we are all interested tp see what the kittens will look like.
fizz is becoming quite restless today and last night and there was a some jelly stuff in the bath this morning (fizz likes to go and sleep in the bath tub at night) and she was digging around my bedroom and the kids bedroom earlier this morning, going underbeds and into the box we made up for her and rearranging the blanket in it, so hopefully we will have kittens with in the next few days. when the vet checked her over she said her abdoman was full but as fizz does not like anyone touching her belly she could not say how many so it will be a surprise.
thanx for your help it is very much appreciated.
