One of my cats (she's about 20 weeks old) vomited this morning. She is behaving normally otherwise. I feed them both the Natural Choice Indoor Kitten dry food, and they both seem to really like it. I noticed, though, that when Ethel vomited, her food didn't even look chewed up. The food is in very small pieces, and while one is very slow and deliberate, it seems that Ethel just sucks the stuff down.

I was just curious if this is something to worry about or not. I've already pestered their vet enough -- she probably thinks I'm some sort of crazy nut. They were spayed a little over a week ago and a couple of days ago I insisted on bringing them in because I was worried about how their incision wound was healing. The vet said they both looked great, no fever, abdominal wall was good, everything checked out just fine. If this is just a random tummy upset because she ate too fast, I'd hate to bother the vet again, especially if they'll be going for their post-op evaluation next week.

It sounds like she ate too fast. I would keep an eye on her and if she is OK the rest of the day, not to worry.

I agree. I've had this happen many times.

Besides what you feed your kitty, there are very often things around the house that we never think of that could make our cats sick and vomit. For example, I just recently moved all of my plants from the window sill to a higher location when I discovered my sick kitty and he has not been sick since. There are just so many other things lurking around the house besides the actual food you give him that could make him sick. In my case, I said, oh, he can't get up there yet, but I was wrong.

is this a new food to them? if so they just arent used to it yet and should be switched over gradually otherwise. it is very common for a new food to upset their tummies to the point of vomiting.

Thanks for the advice. She hasn't been sick again, so I think I'll just assume she ate too fast. It's not new food, and when I switched it over I was careful to gradually do it over a period of about a week. They didn't seem to have any problems with the switch.

I don't have any house plants, so I'm sure it wasn't that. Occasionally Ethel likes to play with the loose litter that sometimes gets kicked out of the box, so maybe she decided to eat some.

Either way, you folks have saved the vet from me making another phone call, so I (and the vet) are most appreciative!

One of mine does it all the time, he just eats his food too fast. Have found that with wet food it needs to be mashed rather than have chunks in it. With dry food, they eat IAMS, I give him small portions. I think he's just greedy, I don't know why they have never wanted for food. He will even go to his brothers bowl and eat his. It's sheer piggery.

Sounds like she ate too last or maybe just didn't feel so great that day.
Glad she isn't puking now.

I have a cat that pukes & has for years.
Vets say he's fine & he is probably just nervous.
Possibly beaten by his last owners.

I think the spay process might have traumatized Ethel a bit. They've always been well cared for since birth (I know the woman who owns the mother), so neither kitty has wanted for anything. The night before the surgery, though, I had to take up their food after midnight. They were both very hungry by morning, and even more so by the time I got them home afterwards.

Ethel was a holy terror after I got her home... hissing at her sister Lucy, growling at anything that moved, and just generally being very anti-social. Once I was able to feed her, Ethel seemed to cheer up, but I think not having the food made her unhappy and a little worried that the time may come again that the food is mysteriously missing.

Thanks again for all of your posts -- I feel much more at ease now.
