What is the worst can happen by letting our cats play with rodents or household rats?

Your cats could pick up tapeworms from eating them... but I don't know there's any real harm in them playing with them...

I have just lost my Napoleon because he almost certainly ate a poisoned mouse or rat. So be very careful that any rodents your cats get are not likely to have been anywhere poison has been laid. It was the worst death possible - please don't risk your cats. I can't say more.

Radar is a good mouser, but he does like to play with them rather than eat them. We take them from him just in case they have picked up poison. Tbh it's not easy removing a dead mouse from a cat in hunting mode, but it can be done.

I'm just boasting now but I managed to get Mav to drop a (live) mouse in a shoe box for me last time!

Rodents can give nasty bites which can get infected. They will be fighting literally for their lives so will do their upmost to get the cat to drop them and go away.
