My girlfriend and I are new users to this site.
I did a brief search for this question, but I would like to get more specific.

What is the possibility that a cat will fall out of, or run through a screened in window?

If it is "secure" enough; they should be okay just sitting there and looking out, and if they stand up and put their paws on it make sure it is secure enough to hold them?

(Our cat is a fairly small (8.2 lbs) male)

A lady who just moved here from California lost her 16 year old cat after the cat fell out of a screened window. And, months ago two of my fosters pushed their way out of my screened window. Luckily I found both of my foster cats and luckily they were both microchipped, just in case someone else found them.

Anyway.....screened in windows are usually safe, but you just can't trust them! If you can find a way to put an extra anchor or lock on the screen, perhaps it will be okay.

I've never had a problem with my cats sitting in windows, but I have heard horror stories. The worst we've had is when one of our cats wanted to chase a bird and ran right through the screen door, so they are strong enough to break it down, but you'll have to push on the window screen to see if you think it can support the weight of your kitty leaning on it.

Jamie, currently a little over 6 kg. (13.23 lbs.), had no trouble pushing through screens when he weighed just 1.5 kg.. All our screens are now firmly anchored "Pet Screen", which I can really recommend.

My cat has also been known to throw herself through screens to get at things outside--other cats, birds, squirrels--and she is not a particularly active cat. Most window screens are not all that secure, and a determined cat at high speed can motor on through. If you're going to open the windows or door, be sure to stay close by, or only open them a sliver.
