Hi Kim,
Here are a few pics of the M-I-Ls' new horse.
For any one else, this is Sundance, a 4 or 5 year old mustang gelding. My mother-In-law bought him for the "family" after I had to sell my horse. She felt bad about me being sad, and got this "family horse" for every one (me) to ride with her.
The other pics are of her other horses.

I am packing my bags. I totally am in love with Sundance. Our group we work with has about 40 mustangs and they are the solidest, sweetest guys! If I ever get a horse, it will be a Mustang.

He has a very kind and gentle look to him, I bet he's a sweetheart

It's been over 18 years since I've been on a horse btw

We almost lost Jezebel during the spring. The neighbors dog chases the horses and she went down. She had serious head injuries. to this day she is still unstable and can loose her balance, no one has ridin her due to her stubleing still.
This was the thread I had when it first happened if you are interested in seeing it if you hadn't back in may.

Today was the first time I have been out at the barn or near the horses since I had to sell Nika, and the first time being near the mustang (he has only been here for two or three weeks now I guess) I couldn't stand looking at those nasty burdox in his think beautiful mane, so I decided to dig up Nikas old brushes and get those out of his mane and tail. He seems like such a sweety! He is pretty nice, and just stood there for me while I brushed him, I was probley out for an hour brushing him. I don't feel up to riding yet, but, I did like brushing him, he seemed to really enjoy it, and he looked so good after. I will have to go get a few pics of him all brushed with out crap all in his mane. I hate that stuff, my horse was always brushed and shinny (the last two pics was my horse I had) He is getting such a thick winter coat! It's already thicker then Nikas ever was, I think!

I'll have to dig out some photos of Nicole riding!

There are no burdox things in the pasture, we cleared that out, but, she ropes off across the drivway and lets them out on the lawn to eat grass. They had gone down back and got into those and their all covered in them! It got too dark so I didn't get to the others but I got him done. I don't know if I want him, MIL said last night that since no one has any thing to do with him she is going to sell him,(I didn't tell her I had brushed him all out nice) but after she realized I had been out brushing him she came over and started talking about getting the saddle fixed for him so I can ride him, she was so excited I did something with him, so if I want him around all I have to do is do some thing, but I just feel sad to sell nika whan I didn't have time for him, and make time for this one. I do like him, and hate the thought of not knowing who he could end up with, but I don't know if I want horses any more. (I will help her requardless this winter she is like 65, and I can't watch her lug water to one horse all winter never mind three of them!)
My niece rode him once but he starteled (the other horses are very mean to him and he was cross tied in the barn and spooked, so she is scared of him and hasn't done any thing since, she is 9-11 I think) Well, while it is nice I will go get some pics of him now that he is all brushed nice, and mabey I will work on the other two as well, I really like Jezebel, she was the first one she got, and we almost lost her in may.
Kim, I would love to see some pics of your kids riding, I hope you get them dug up for me!
Do they look like him? I think he is small (not too small for me to ride, and MIL doesn't think so either, if it hadn't been so dark last night she probley would have had me out riding last night!) I can see them from my window, and I am having a hard time not wanting to go out there, so I don't think I will ever beable to stay away from them, LOL! as some one said it's in your blood! I guess it's ok to be sad for Nika but, I can't hate horses because I chose to find him a better place. So if she doesn't sell him, I will probley end up riding him! He does seem like a sweety!

How tall is sundance? Maybe it's just the pics but he looks kinda small. It's a shame you had to give up Nika... what a beautiful horse he is.

I will have to go find out, any thing is small after Nika, he is 16.2 hands. I think sundance may be 14.2 or 15, mabey! so I think he is small!

Mustangs come in many sizes, but for the most part I find them to be "compact". You may also notice they have pretty large hardy feet and sturdy legs. They also mature slowly (like Ragdolls)
and don't get their full growth for 4 - 5 years. I guess the theory on that is that they use their energy to survive and don't get huge growth spurts. Most of them also have a pretty nice gait. Not too choppy of a trot.

cool pics

I love the bays and chestnut. I owned a quarter horse/welsh cross that was very similar in color to the one you sold. He had the lovely red coat/black points in the summer and the darker coat in the winter.
