Quill is a semi longhair but I honestly don't mind brushing him. He's getting better with it, thankfully and he seems to shed less than the other cats I've had, which were all shorthairs. I'm on the fence, I don't really mind long or short hair.

My cats all simply came to me.
BUT, if I were to look for a cat to adopt, I would insist on short hair.
But then, you know, best laid plans and all that.

I don't have a preference. I think long-haired cats are gorgeous, but I think that about shorthairs, too.

My three all have short hair, so in order to continue inflating their little egos, I will vote shorthair

I've never had a long haired cat but I think they are beautiful. So if I had the time to keep up with it, that is what I would choose.

Longhair here...Grooming isn't a big deal to me and I just love the plushness of my boy's fur.

They also never get poop stuck so I am lucky there!

I personally like short hair cats, but if I fell in love with a longhair, I could happily take on the chore of grooming. For those of you choosing shorthair because of grooming, if this were not an issue would your answer change?

No question for me ...Long hair...My very first cat when I was 2 was long haired he was born in the hollow of a tree and he was the only long haired one and I chose him. I've always had long haired till Joey showed up. I love the bonding time when I brush them they love it.

I go for shorthair.
I have enough trouble keeping my own hair tangle-free!
I would not mind grooming a cat though, as long as it enjoyed it.

I just like the sleekness of shorthair cats. My boy's fur is short, thick, and very soft, and I like his lean muscular look.

As long as the poo didn't get stuck on their butt and they didn't get matted easily, I would easily have a longhair. Actually I'd adopt whichever cat's personality appealed to me.

The breeds I love are short hair, but I see cats like icklemiss's Magnum, and Winter Hawk's Thor, and know that I would adopt kitties like them in a second because they are just so gorgeous!!!!

I notice nobody's chosen a dog yet.

I voted for Longhair. There is just something absolutely stunning about long hair kitties that I love! I'm also equally smitten on short hair kitties too
I love them all!

I have one long haird kitty- Isabella- She is an odd eyed Turkish Angora...and while she is a long hair- Angoras do not have a 2nd layer of fur that is common with most long hairs like persians or maine coons...so they do not shed nearly as bad and she virtually never matts! I've acutally noticed that she sheds less than some of my short haired kitties

Abilene, Jasmine, and Velvet are all short hairs- I've noticed that Velvet and Jasmine tend to shed worse than my long hair Isabella. Abilene probably sheds the least out of the four.

reguardless of all of my girls shedding though- they really don't shed too badly at all, and I brush them 2x daily so they are well groomed and that drastically reduces the amount of fur that they shed as well as matts

(Is there any way we could add an extra option to the votes for "Both" ?)

I deliberately ommitted the "both" option as I really would like to know TCS's preferred choice...if "both" were there I would assume that 99% of TCS would choose it!

And it really is no wonder that no TCS'er chose "A dog" isn't it?

A note on the butt poop comments. Scratch had this happen once, so DH and I decided to give him a bath. He had this wide eyed look on his face when we whisked him off to the bathroom. Then he seemed interested in the water, and just took his good old time trying to figure out what it was. Once I picked him up and his first furry little toe hit the bath he cried "NOOOOOOOOOOO". I've never had a butt poop problem again.
