I have a cat who is a little over 2 years old. For some reason when she goes number 2 in the litterbox, she does not cover it up. I cannot stand it as it stinks up our place. She is declawed, (not by my doing) and does scratch at things like she has claws. She does sometimes scratch while standign in the litterbox, but she scratches her paws outside of it.

Why would she be doing this?

Have you tried using different kinds of cat litter? Maybe she does not like the feel of the one you are using.
But remember though that a declawed kitty is IMHO a disabled kitty. Perhaps a bit more patience is in order.

And trust me - covering it up does NOT mean that the stink will be any less. Ferris shovels 8 pounds of litter onto his poops, and you STILL have to leave the room, LOL!

IM going to agree with yayi, maybe she does not like the feel of the litter. What brand are you using?

I dont think the declaw would be the issue since you say she is scratching at other things, and kitty litter is much softer than say, the couch.

lol Zoey NEVER covers her poop, never has. Dont know what's wrong with the girl, she isnt declawed so that's not it. Weird thing she does is before she goes, she scratches all the litter and moves it all over to one side, then she poops in the bare spot. It's like thanks a lot.. LOL.

yeah cats are funny. OUr 10 week old kitten scratches like crazy all over and then goes in a shallow area. Pretty funny! I am just thankful she uses it!
