They look at you like, "Why did you do that? Don't you know YOU stink?" They play the blame game at least dogs acknowledge it. Cats blame other people

One time I was watching tv and I had no idea Quill was sitting behind me. Suddenly I hear this huge, vibrating, phantom fart and I swear I jumped twenty feet! Usually he's the quietest guy but when he lets one out you know about it!

If I smell poo I know exactly where it's coming from - Mosi's bum! He's long haired and sometimes gets his fluffy trousers in a bit of a mess. At night he starts off sleeping on the floor but he likes to get into bed with me during the night so I often wake up to find him lying on my face - not good with a dirty butt!
Thankfully it's not an every day occurance.

Zissou scares herself when she farts, puffs up, hunkers down, ears back, and then takes off like a rocket
Talk about being uncomfortable with your own bodily functions.

Anyway, what is more disturbing is the phantom pee smell. She's never gone outside the box, but somehow every now and then it'll smell like cat pee and there's no wet spot anywhere and she hasn't been in the box for hours. How is that?

Poor Zissou! I wish we could get our strange kitties on a therapists couch sometime.

Oh, and the phantom pee is probably the smell equivalent of an optical or auditory illusion - you're brain doesn't quite process something right, and this is a close approximation sort of thing. I can't explain it well. I do know somebody who it happens to a lot.

Okay, I'm starting to digress here, but I have an absurdly good sense of smell and sometimes I do think it's like that, like phantom cell phone vibrations or something, and the thing I smell is a faint whiff of something I can't identify and so my brain decides it smells like cat pee or some other, usually extremely obscure, thing like 3rd grade recess or Chuck E Cheese (a chain of kids restaurants).

Is anybody paranoid that their house smells like cat poop all the time and we just don't smell it anymore?

I have that paranoia also! I have (this is no joke) 6 cans of air freshener (including 3 Febreze, a Glade and 2 Renuzuit) a Febreze ScentStories ( I got it for Christmas), 5 Glade plug ins and get this.......36 Scented Candles in my house!
Yeap, I'm paranoid!

The worst is when the smell wakes me up in the middle of the night. 8-Bit will sometimes fart in his sleep and it will make me sit up like a rocket thinking that he had an accident in the bed. When I look around all I see is a sleeping husband and cat. It drives me nuts.

At least he claims and doesn't blame! Mine looks at Jake and tells him "You gotta stop that"

She may be like my Ivory.
Ivory loves to go leave a smelly one in the box, then she comes to me for cuddles, the smell just kind of follows her and stays around for a few minutes.
I know she does it on purpose!

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I am famous for poo hunting!
I will get a whif, and start on my hands & knees sniffing....where is it coming from?!?!?! Occasionally I will find a tiny little smudge on the hard wood floor, as in a little piece was on one of their paws and a little poopy foot print is on the floor. Once or twice I have found the tiniest little droplet of poop, and LuckyGirl was trying like heck to cover it in my living room.....I just figured Louie literally scared the crap out of her, and she was trying to cover it up!
Or maybe she just farted and a little bit came out???

LOL you guys are hilarious! I must admit though that I do smell that poopy smell every once in a while. This being my first cat the first few times I actually got on my hand and knees and searched the ENTIRE house trying to find where Ceci pooped. Turns out she had a piece of poop stuck to her 'butt skirts' which is probably why the smell lingered throughout the house since she was following me around while I searched!!

As one of the other members said, I am VERY paranoid with the way my house smells. I've never had a creature who pees and poos in the house, and this makes me very afraid!!

I have a Glade plug in in every room, a Glade Lightshow in DS's room, Air Freshners in every room including two in the bathroom. Then I have a Renezuit (sp?) spray in my bedroom, just because all the stinkies get up on the bed and its nice to spray it on the bed and have a wonderful smell.

Also, I have an obsession with candles. I currently have two in the bathroom (far from kitties and babies!!) and about 3 in the bedroom and two in the kitchen.

Lets just say the only time my house smells of cat is when Ceci decides to drop a bomb in the middle of the night!!
