I just don't understand this cat! LOL

Callie's my 10 yo precious tortie. The past couple of weeks, she's been less interested in eating, but has been more alert, energetic, inquisitive, playful, and loving. Litterbox habits are absolutely normal. She's losing weight, too, which is okay because she was overweight. She was at the vet last month for her teeth cleaning and I had them run a semi-annual sr. blood panel on her. Everything was very normal.

Nothing in our house has changed. Same food, same everything.

She just has me puzzled. Any clues what might be going on or other things to look for (besides continued weight loss)? Anyone else been through something like this?

Thanks for your help!

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along shortly to help you since I really can't. The only thing that does worry me however, is that you say she is losing a fair bit of weight. It is not good for a cat to lose weight too quickly - in fact it is dangerous. I think I would take her back to the vet if it were me.

Was she losing weight when she went in for her teeth cleaning? Is is possible her mouth hurts? I would call the vet and just chat a bit about what is going on, just to cover all the bases.

Time to get a vet check .. It could be she is just not found of what she is eating... Did the vet run a thyriod / t4 panel??

Her teeth are fine. She's eating well, just not the same amount. She LOVES her food! The vet did run the full, thorough panel...you name it, she got it!

She's been gradually losing weight the past 3 years since we went to scheduled feedings and a specific amount of food per day. I will continue to monitor her weight and eating habits.

I think I'm just surprised that she's got so much energy and seems so happy! She's been in a funk since about February (& we've been to the vet numerous times about that!).

Have a thyroid run ... it often is not in a senior or pre op panel.... If that was run then it may be time for a specialist...

Can you post the thyroid values too? For seniors, normal total T4 levels are under 2.5, even though the lab range is 0.8 to 4.0.
