Not only am I dealing with the emotions of sending Freckles to the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow, but I come home to my apartment to find a note on the door that management will be in to inspect my apartment sometime between 9 and 4:30 tomorrow. Everyone on the floor got one, so they're not targeting me for the cats (the lease says no pets, but at least half of the apartments have cats). I'm over my parents house right now putting some of the larger cat items in the basement, just in case. I didn't see anyone else moving anything. I have to go into work tomorrow morning before I go to the vets, and my parents have offered to take Bob and Freckles for the day. My mother even offered to go to the vets and sit with me while Freckles passes.

I realize that the apartment management has the right to inspect, and I'm not contesting that. It's just a really bad time for me
as I hate having strangers in my apartment when I'm not around.

Thanks for listening.

Maureen

I'm sorry to hear about what your going threw. One good thing about living in a crappy place no one cares what you have and they never inspect anything!

I can COMPLETELY empathise with you, and MAJOR coping vibes are coming your way, both for the stress of having to say goodbye - as if that isn't hard enoug in itself - but also for the stress of unexpected strangers trooping through your home!

My landlord is selling my house, so I have to pretty much be ready at a moment's notice to open up my apartment to God knows who coming through - I hate it SO much, it really freaks me out - just one of my issues, I guess, but I'm right there with you.

I'll be thinking about you and Freckles tomorrow - hang in there, you can get through it - and you know we're here for you!

I've been there almost 4 years and this is the 1st time they have done it. My brother thinks they're looking for apartments with too many people and/or people not on the lease living there. They have to announce 24 hours in advance, even though this would give anyone with a brain a chance to get out for the day. The last time something like this happened to me was at my old apartment. The building was sold and the new owner was planning on remodling. Because I was at work many of the tennents (who worked odd hours or who were unemployed) blamed me for keeping a door that I didn't use open and having cats (which I didn't at the time). I moved, and oddly enough I'm planning to move into a house at the end of the year.

When it rains...it pours.

It is possible that because inspections are not a annual thing with your landlord,
they are updating their insurance or even selling.

I hope that your Mom goes with you tomorrow when Freckles crosses to the Bridge.
You will be in my thoughts.

I'm sorry you're having a rough time.
I'll be thinking of you tomorrow when you have to go to the vets. It's so nice that you'll have your mom there with you.

Update - the cats are in my parents spare bedroom in the basement. Freckles is meowing, and the Jack Russell Terrier (who is confined upstairs) is going nuts, according to my brother. Freckles spent last night meowing, as since he's been really sick he's been obsessed with sitting in the bath with water running lightly. I just let him have his way, as his last request.

Is your manager good enough to postpone his visit until another time? Perhaps if he understood the stresses that you are under, would he rethink his timing?

Unfortunatly it's a blanket thing - they're doing the entire building at one time.

Just reading this now-I am sad to read about Freckles then to top it off with your landlord.
