I work at 14th and H street in Washington DC so I have seen the motorcades, the protestors, blocked streets etc. etc. but I have never been this close.
I just went outside my building to get a salad for a deli up the street and the street was all closed off to foot traffic. There are police and plainclothes police swarming the area preventing people from going down this one street. I really can't remember when I have seen such a large presence on the streets. Maybe for the inauguration.
I didn't stop to ask who they were protecting to my husbands dismay. I was hungry and just wanted my lunch. But it had to be someone important. I did hear one person say it was President Bush in a restaurant. But you know how crowds are and I couldn't say for sure it was. It sure was a lot of security whoever it was. No one was getting near. I will have to ask my co-workers if they heard anything.
