I'm feeding stray cats and kittens, and most of them are friendly, some act just like house pets already. Anyone want any? The no kill shelters/animal rescues wont take them (well obviously because there are so many homeless cats in the world) And the local shelter isnt good because most likely they will be put to sleep if I bring them in, they are already overloaded with black and white cats and kittens, and usually only take females (the majority here at my house are males) (my mom worked there and she told me herself, and as much as she didnt want me feeding them, she wouldnt send them there knowing this information)

I know one time Lisalee was going to come and pick 1 up, but that was last year, and a series of unfortunate events didnt make it possible for her to come and get it. I contacted her just this week, but she hasnt replyed, I guess she's not interested anymore...

Keith....I would hope that you are also trying to work on getting these cats fixed because that is just as critical as trying to find them homes. Feeding alone without providing spaying/neutering will only mean more kittens.

Below is a list of low cost clinics in New York:

I would also involve the Long Island Cat Project to TNR these cats:

I've been through this since last year and none of them will ever get fixed by me, i've got nobody to take me to get one fixed (i've got driving issues), and no money for a vet thats close by (no job or any money). My mom buys the cat food for me, spends only $1.50 a week for a tiny 3 oz box...that it literally all we can spare.

I just feed them, play with them, and change their water each day, sometimes I brush them too, oh and I clean out their outdoor cat house.

So if anyone wants them you'll have to get them fixed yourself or come to my house to pick them up, most will probably just walk into a carrier if you put food in...

Keith....I'm not sure you are helping the overpopulation by your actions. If you cannot get these cats the medical attention they deserve....it would probably be best to have a TNR group get involved. Explain to them that you do not have funding...perhaps they can find a way to get the spays/neuters done for free. Right now though...you are basically encouraging these cats to continue a cycle of homeless cats which does not help these cats or your efforts.

As for trying to find these cats homes....posting here is probably not the best way to find homes. I'm not sure how many individuals on this board are from Long Island. Again, you would be best suited to post ads locally in your area. Ask the rescue groups if they would be willing to post a courtesy ad on your behalf.

I have to agree with Katie. I think by feeding and not spaying or neutering, you are allowing the kitties to continue reproducing. I know it seems cruel, but if you keep feeding them, they will have more kittens. Thus you are enabling them to reproduce.

The only responsible way to feed outdoor kitties, is to have them spayed and neutered, too. I KNOW we went through this last year. But this is a new year, and you are a year older. Start over, if you love these cats. Start calling and e-mailing. Contact AlleyCatAllies. And remember, no one will come in and do it all. But if you can be the person trapping, and help out a lot, then you may find someone to help with finding traps and a low cost vet.

You are starting to grow up, so hopefully you will find a job soon. That will help a lot in your abilities to help the cats in your neighborhood. Posting them in the local paper is a good idea. How about calling the paper and asking if they will do a story (including a pic) of your efforts toward helping the local street cats.

I'm sure you will come up with something to really help these kitties.

If TNR is free I still have the problem of getting the cats to the TNR place, no transportation.

Well I think one is fixed already, the one that was abandoned.

But anyway, i'll see if I can come up with any other ideas.

But please, if anyone does live close to me and wants a cat please dont hesitate , you can also help by adopting one, that will help save on food too.

Keith....I know some amazing people who are on disability and cannot drive...but they find a way to get the cats trapped and then ask for assistance with transporting the cats to the clinic and back again. Also, there may be a mobile clinic that could come to your location. As much as having fewer cats (by having them adopted) would be helpful....so would stabilizing the colony by spaying/neutering.

Since you are feeding these cats...you really need to take responsibility for their wellness so I do hope you will reach out to the TNR group.

With my parents or families assistance it would be no problem, but they wont help, which really ticks me off.

I guess they dont see it as being very important, and it's sad, because after all I did last year to try and get 3 cats spayed/neutered (and unfortunetly failed), you think they would say "well you tried, so well see what we can do to help"

If my mom (when she worked at the animal shelter) just helped me get ONE CAT a home (the mom) no other cat (except for the one dumped here) would exist today, and thats the honest truth. I could have trapped the mom, then my mom could have brought her into the shelter with me there and with time the mom cat would have settled down, got her shots and would have given birth to the 2 male kittens in the shelter, and they would have surely found homes then. Then they would have spayed her, and she would have found a home.

BUT instead, my mom REFUSED to help me out, the mom gave birth to the kittens, my mom quit the animal shelter, and since then 3 more kitties have been born.

Learning lesson, sometimes Parents can ruin your lives, and crush your dreams!

Keith...obviously, your parents will not help.....so you need to take matters into your own hands. At this point, it is about stabilizing the cats you now have...and reaching out within your local community for assistance or taking on a job that will allow you to pay for the spay yourself. At some point, you become responsible for your life and your actions.

Sometimes the TNR people will come and get them or bring a mobile clinic to you. What you would have to do is trap them and have them ready. Or put them into a carrier, box, even round them all into the garage so they are contained somehow.

Hi Keith,
I just wanted to that at least the driving problem might be easy to solve. I have 2 dogs and a cat and sometimes drive up to the shelter to give them stuff like blankets and old toys. If someone there were to ask me if I could transport some cats back and forth I would do it. So maybe you can ask the shelter to post or ask around.
Good luck.

hi keith,

not sure what if any help i can be. as you know the kitty problem
here on long island (as with every place) is overwhelming.

i live in north babylon not too far from little east neck road and
straight path.

aproximately where in west babylon do you live ?

also, are you able to call some rescues ? if i give you a list of rescues
to call would you be able to do that and tell them what is going on
to see if they could help ?

if they could help on the financial side of this problem then i might be
able to meet up wtih you and help you transport.

however IF you are a minor i would need to meet your mother first
and make sure this is okay with her.

let me know what you think ?

thank you for trying to help those kittys.

Hi. I've been in North Babylon quite a few times, I used to be friends with someone there just a few months ago. Do you live by the High School? In my opinion North Babylon has more cats than WB, there are strays everywhere.

I live a few blocks from the High School in WB. Yeah type the rescues and i'll see if any are able to help, thanks.

if i drive one way i am very close to belmont park and if i drive
the opposite way i am pretty close to little east neck road
near straight path.
if you are near west babylon high it sounds like you are near rt.109.
anyway...it sounds like we only live a few minutes away from each
other by car.
i am at work now. i will take a quick look to see where i kept the
numbers of all the rescues i have and post them back here.
if i don't have time while at work i will definately do it tonight.
