So I have a cat Moxy, who is about a year and a half old now. He just went to the Vets last week, for a bad cough, and ear mites. He recieved Medication for his earmites and cold, and we found out he has a yeast infection, making his mites worse. Also, when we found him, he unfortunately was born with a deformity, missing his two back feet, making him unable to sctrach his mites (making them worse). He has been taking his medicine for a while now, but we have stopped because his anitbiotics ran out, although we still have his ear mites medication, and use it.

Also, his diet has no wet food in it. He only eats a certan kind of dry food, Whiskas to be exact. He refuses to eat any other kind of food, even chicken and such.

So for the past 3 days, he's been having Diarrhea, and I am a bit worried. It isn't bloody or too watery, but I was just wondering if any of these changes are the cause of it. After reasearching on the internet some, I am taking his food away for the day, then replacing it with a bland food, lik boiled Chicken Breast with Rice, which he will hopefully eat. And leaving out fresh water constantly, making sure he is hydrated.

I'm not sure if it is Moxy's diet, because he has been on it for months now, and never had a problem like this before. I'm guessing it was the anitbiotics for the cold, but they ran out 2 days ago.

If anyone has advice on what I should do, or what I'm doing is right, that woudl be greatly appreciated. Also, if this is a symptom to a disease of some sort (God forbid), I would like some advice on that also.
Thanks.

Well 1st of all
welcome to TCS, its great here, with lots of advice and help.

About your question........oh heck well I suppose the best course of action is to take Moxy back to the vets. It might be the tablets, but vets usually advise about side effects
As you mention its good to make sure theres water as diarrhoea can cause dehydration and this can be a very serious problem.

About his diet, well I am not an expert and cats can be very fussy
As long as it a good quality cat food then he should be getting all the necessary requirments. If he has a medical condition, which can be affected by diet, then you do need expert advice and your vet can help.

Oh I do hope Moxy is OK and heres sending lots of GET WELL SOON {{{{{ vibes }}}}}

Do keep us posted and good luck

Haha. Thanks much,. I've been browsing around, and found that everyones great, and lots of good energy is put into these replies.

About Moxy, I'm not sure when I can take him to the vets, as I have a REALLY busy week this week. (Bu the way, the meds were liquid, like powder mixed with water, and we gave them to him by a dropper) But for now, i'll just take food away for a day, make sire he has his water, and start giving him a bland diet. If the problem continues, it's back to the Vets.

Thanks for all of your advice!

This probably isn't the time to change foods while he's having problems, but you should try to get him on a better quality food once he's better. Whiskas isn't very good quality. If you look at some of the other threads about food on this forum you will find tons of advice on good food. Sharky is very knowledgeable and can be of great assistance regarding food and quality.

Also, wet food is much healthier for your kitty than dry food so going heavy on the wet and light on the dry is the way to go.

Rice and chicken is the best option at the moment, try him on tuna with rice, (the variety in brine) the smell is stronger and the brine will ensure that he drinks more water. Only small amounts to begin with.

I'd like to thank you guys for all your good wishes. Moxy has been better, he still has Diarrhea, but it's not as bad, and it's not watery (Sorry, I know this sounds gross). He has been eating, and ate some wet food this week. He hasn't used the litterbox for 2 days, but I just cleaned it out and filled it with fresh litter, so hopefully he'll go sometime today. He's been acting normal, but threw up yesturday. It may have been a reaction to the wet food, since he hasn't eaten some in so long. But he has been acting normal, running around and purring. And always wanting to cuddle. If anybody has advice, I'd be happy to listen
