My 4 year old male cat who was neutered when he was a kitten was recently kenneled at my vet for one week. This is the first time that he has been "away from home" that long. The day I picked him up he started acting very unusually. Once or twice a day he would start doing what I call "a little dance" on me while I was lying on the couch. He would start out kneading me like he usually does, but then all four paws would come together and his back would arch. He would start this motion on my leg (like he was riding me) and also scooting his bottom on my leg. When I'd get up from the couch he would meow in a long fashion, showing his teeth, but not ferociously and then as I started to walk he would stay close to my ankles and bat a my ankles while walking. When I put my hand close to him, he would act as though he wanted to bite me, but it was more of a play-bite. I took him to the vet (where he was kenneled) and the vet ruled out urinary problems, cleaned his anal glands, and said the only other alternative is that he was interested in "sex". My cat has never acted like this before and the vet tells me it is probably a psychological problem. I do not know what to do and he didn't either. Could this just be a stress reaction from his stay at the vet? The vet could not be certain and am wondering if anyone has had this happen with their cat. Help!

From everything you have said, it sounds behavioral to me. The stress of the stay made him upset. Cats don't know how to communicate or deal with stress, so they end up doing some pretty strange things. More than likely it will improve with time and getting back into his usual routine. If you would like to try and relax him a bit and see if he may settle down sooner, you can try giving him Rescue remedy twice a day for a week or so. It's an all natural flower essence you can find at most health and nutrition stores.

Thanks so much for your suggestion and for taking the time to read my dilemma! I will definitely look into the Rescue product.
