Im at wits end,

My female cat is meowing like crazy lately and annoying everyone in the house! (She IS fixed)

My male who has been with her her whole life died a couple months ago, then I moved into another house where she has to stay upstairs with me. She has LOTS of room (4 rooms) and her litter is always full and food always full, and I pay as much attention to her as possible, but no matter what I do she sits at the door and meows and I can not let her downstairs as the person who owns this house is allergic to cats. I love my cat very much, and up to now havent had any problems with her, and she is 4 years old.

How do I get my cat to stop meowing?!?!?!?

She may well just be reacting to the loss of her brother and the changes in her environment. All you can do is continue to give her lots of love and attention. Have you considered adopting a new brother for her. I have a similar situation here. I had to have my hoggie pts a few weeks ago( he was 7) and Bells( his littermate) has been meowing like crazy since then. She has stopped looking for him as much but still meows all the time. I am considering another cat but my husband is allergic so it will take a bit of convincing. You might also try the Feliway that many people have mentioned on this site as it may help calm her down.

Hi nprepost ~ I am going through the same thing as you right now. We adopted a stray in July and we are having horrible problems with meowing. Our cat is spayed also. I've been trying Feliway, but it's not working for me. But it IS worth a try because most people seem to report great success with it. There is a spray and a plug-in available. It releases the scent of "happy" facial pheremones and calms cats (also helps with other behavioral problems). Humans can't smell it, so it won't make your home smell odd or anything.

I wish you the best of luck because I know how you must be feeling. I know I am feeling sorry for my cat, and my husband and I are starting to suffer health-wise from this because we can never sleep or get a moment of peace. On average, I think we get about two or three hours of sleep per night if we are lucky. It's taking a toll on us...

I just picked up my cat last night from the vet because they thought some ovarian tissue may have been missed when she was originally spayed (before we adopted her) and that she may be in heat. After exploratory surgery, no tissue was found, so they've concluded it's a behavioral problem. They suggested I put her on medication, but I'm not too thrilled about that...

I wish you the best of luck. Try Feliway, it may help you a lot.

It sounds like grief and loneliness to me, too. When Wilde died, Oberon (her partner for 14 years) sat on the bed and yowled and yowled like his heart was breaking. This happened about four days after she died... He moped around for weeks until we got a kitten (Sparkle). Then he became a very protective grandfather and perked up because he had his "paws" full!

Cheers, from
