as your kitty is still young, there is a good chance that she will be very accepting of another kitty, and just because a kitten is "blood" does not neccassarily mean that they will not fight, many members of this forum can testify to that

My oldest cat is 12 years old, I have introduced 4 cats into her life after she was 10, there is always some bickering and pecking orders to be established, very rarely (percentage speaking), do you come across a cat that is totally unaccepting of new cats in the home.

Please, for her sake, get her spayed.
10 months is far too young, and the more heat cycles she goes through without being spayed (they can have many over the course of a year), the more likely she will be at risk for pyometra, a very nasty systemic infection of the uterus.

Cats know no different from being altered or not, to believe they do is simply anthropomorphism.

As a breeder, I can completely understand and relate to your desire to have kittens about. They do bring a special energy into one's heart and they are always a positive addition to any house.

However, I would strongly encourage you to go ahead and spay your girl now ... and instead of letting her have a litter, why not contact your local shelter or rescue organization, have them mentor you on responsible cat care, then place a pregnant female into your home to foster? That way, you can enjoy kittens from a cat who is already needy instead of creating one.

To answer your questions:
The best age to let her get pregnant is never(IMO, no cat should be bred unless s/he is a perfect specimen of a purebred).
Yes, it is cruel to let her get pregnant this young. She is nothing but a kitten herself. Younger mothers seem to have a very difficult time not only keeping the litter, but surviving themselves.

Before you consider letting your kitty get pregnant, please stop by your local shelter & volunteer.

That is wonderful! You will be helping to solve the problem of homeless cats and it will not take long for your cats to get along. There is a lot of information on this site about how to introduce them to each other so as to prevent problems. ANd there are many experts to help you along the way.

Thank you! I was oh so worried about this girl, im very glad you have decided to spay. It will bring peace to your heart. I never spayed/neutered my pets, and even though I never had an unwanted pregnancy (except for 1 cat) I can tell you it is very stressful having an intact animal.

To this day I still think about my sons grandmother, and the time and money she spent getting more than 20 cats spayed and neutered, and it all started with 2 males and 2 females. Its sad when you think about how one cat can make such a huge difference.

i am so glad you are going to get her spayed. I dont know official figures for animals to be pts in the UK and we have a lot less kill shelters than you do (ours is certainly no kill, Tom was with us for 14.5 months!!), but I still think it is 4 figures min (and that is just from one place that does pts) per year. Too many sadly. KatieMae - if you are interested in fostering, pm me the rough area you live in, and I will let you have some shelter details. I do hope you will get the male kitten neutered when he is old enough though.
