Where do Pet Stores get the animals that they sell? And also, does anyone have details about how both Euthenasia-based shelters and neuter/release-based shelters work? Like, are most shelters non-profit organizations, or do they operate on money from the government, thru taxes or what? If anyone knows, it'd be helpful. I just want to understand more.

From what I've heard,Petstores get their animals from BYB (back yard breeders)

This is likely best for IMO.. but

Most pet stores get animal from puppy/ kitty mills .... or BYB from the local area... NO NO Responsible breeder would ever give there animals to a pet store to sell...

Shelter s can be non profit( rescues and humane societys are often this)... Some are operated by city county or state ( likely the local dog pound .. Or they can be for profit run by a third party for a city or locality

Although you have posed some very good questions....I would recommend that for questions related to TNR, that you contact Alley Cat Allies which is a national TNR organization:

You seem to have a LOT of questions....some of which really would be better addressed via more refined searches on the internet.
