I recently discovered that I am a cat person first, and a dog person second. I always though I wasnt a cat person, after all I thought "you cant train them, they do what they please, theyre loud, they jump everywhere, nothing is safe from them etc. But upon adopting my first indoor cat all of that changed. I mean cats are the kings and queens of both worlds. They are fiercely independent yet when they want to be petted they will purr their little hearts out and rub up against you making you feel so loved. They use a litterbox, and unless they have a medical reason they will continue to use that box faithfully, its not like a dog where if you dont hurry up and take them out they pee/poop anywhere.

Cats keep themselves clean, and have zero odor. Now I feel bad because I own a dog, but after owning both species I can honestly say that after my Collie is gone I dont think i'll own another dog.

Do we have any other people who have changed their opinions?

I tend to think that cats adopt us instead of the opposite. I've seen so many stories like yours and mine is also similar (except I never was a dog person). I was adopted by Skitters (RIP) twenty years ago and have had cats ever since.

Welcome.

I'm not trying to scare you off or change your mind about cats but this statement isn't always true. Sadly, lots of people have problems w/ cats going potty out of their litter box. I can be behavioral, terratorial and many other reasons. Be sure you keep your litter box clean and keep your kitty happy and hopefully it won't become a problem for you.

I am definately more of a cat person but I love dogs too. I love their loyalty and eagerness to please. I alos love that most dogs want to be loved on 24/7 so you don't have to try to hard to snuggle with them. Of course Wickett is part dog I'm convinced cuz all I have to do is call him and he'll come plop down for some lovin. Where as Frankie hardly ever comes for cuddles and petting must be on her terms.

The same happened to me. I used to hate cats. I was always a dog lover until we got our cat, Gus. I was so scared when we first got him. He was 9 weeks and tiny. When we first got him, he'd sleep under the sheets. For the first few days I'd wear a full set of sweats and socks to bed because I was so afraid that he would scratch me to death. After a few days, I was left home alone with him. I was on the laptop and he crawled into my lap to sleep. It was so adorable. Ever since then, I've been a cat lover. I love my little Gus so much!!!

I'm very lucky with Gus. He's never had any problems with the litter box. There's been a few incidents when he had some leftovers stuck on him, but nothing major. I just hope the next cat we get will be as good with the litter box.

I used to love dogs, but now I see them as alot of work and high maintenance which I don't have time for in my life, so its cats for me!!

I love both dogs and cats.Cats are just so much easier to take care of than dogs.

I have to say I'm still a dog person. If I had to choose between owning cats and dogs. The dogs would win. But I do love my kitties very much and their in close second with the dogs.
