I would have to say that in essance they are the same. However usually when someone advertises their name and then cattery after it, it usually means they have their name registered with a cat registery. For example I am PompuosPets Persian Cattery because I have my name with CFA. Now this isnt always true and everyone does things differently but in my experiance this is what I have seen.

And as a side note usually breeders like to be know as a cattery, cat breeder makes it sound like a back yard breeder.
Hi Hissy, I would say it depends on if they are registered or not, if the cattery is registered, then it has to be registered to the breeder of that cattery, which in turn makes the "Breeder & the cattery" one of the same.
Hissy, if you were in Europe, they call a boarding facility for cats a cattery. Which I think is where the name came from.I think the theory was that if there were several cats housed together, it was a cattery.
I just wanted to point out, for any new members who may not know, that just because a breeder has a "registered" cattery does not automaticaly mean that it is a top quality one.
Just because they have a fancy website doesn't make them a quality breeder.
If at all possible, visit them if you are considering getting a kitten from them, talk to people that have done business with them.
If you have ANY doubts AT ALL about the cattery, then find another one.
I totally agree with Ken, ALWAYS make sure you have talked to former kitty clients, they will be more than willing to share anything "Good or bad" with future customers.
I say, at least talk to 5 or more references if you can not visit the cattery in person.
Websites can be a good "Online" way to see the cattery and cats, but nothing beats going there in person!
