When its cold and yucky or you feel cold and yucky or are just plain old having a crap day, what is your fave comfort food or drink?

Mine is, and will always be SOUP!
Yes, I am a soup-a-holic.

Just wondering what your own fave comfort foods are and why and where did they come from?
Please include recipes if you can!

My fave soups are thai lemongrass soups, leek, cheese, potato, split pea ok...any soup at all really....even plain old homemade chicken noodle.
My mum always made soups growing up and its pure comfort food!

So, what are yours and where did the tradition come from?

When i'm cold and feel really gross - I love Soup and cornbread (homemade cornbread..not that junk in the box
). I also LOVE cheesebread sticks & suace from pizza hutt as a comfort food once in a long while. My comfort drink is sweet tea or Woodchucks (amber apple cider beer)...depeding on my mood.-normally I only drink water.

humm where did it come from...the cornbread thing came from my mom- she makes the best cornbread ever (that's what everyone in the South says about their momma, but it's true!
)

Not many people make cornbread in Canada so I never had it until I went to Missouri...I also was freaked out that the breakfast was so huge that I couldn't move after....She made biscuits and white gravy (which we also don't make up here) and sausages and eggs and big slabs of toast....

It's stupid but when I am feeling lonely or sick I make somthing my mom made for me for years.
1 Piece of bread
1 kraft singles slices
1 hotdog choped into rounds and evenly placed over the bread.
Place in oven and heat until cheese is bubbly

For a drink It had to be hot chocolate with a shot of peppermint shnaps.

What a question! There are so many answers! Depends on the weather & how much comforting I need

A hot bowl of tomato soup with oyster crackers (no square crackers, they must be the little round ones!); really good mac & cheese, not the kind out of a blue box; toasted cheese sandwich with potato chips & dill pickles (I don't even have to need comforting for that); and nothing beats a warm chocolate chip cookie.
I don't have any idea how all those came about. When I was a kid, I wouldn't eat any of them.

Oh my. I have so many favorite comfort foods! I love these things called "Veggie Chips." They are actually chips made with vegetables in them. YUMMY! Healthier, but really tasty. I also love peanut butter or cashew butter on anything. Cookies, frothy coffees, frozen yogurt, pastas (with parmesan, of course), all good!

It would have to be pizza or something sweet (cakes, donuts) for food. For a drink either red wine or coffee.

I like cold pizza and a cold can of pepsi.

Or just chocolate and sometimes grilled cheese

ICECREAM! The colder and harder the better. Especially good for when I have a crap day, or having beef with people. Sit down with a tub and just start shoveling till your anger gets completely overwhelmed by the creamy frozen goodness!

Miso soup with small tofu cubes, a few pieces of wakame seaweed, and freshly chopped scallion. I make it almost instant from my hot water dispenser, fill mug 1/4 with hot water, dissolve a spoonful of miso (I like the white or "shiro miso" variety), drop in the tofu, wakame, and scallion and top up on the hot water. Stir and enjoy! Perfect for those cold to your bones days, or when you feel the sniffles coming on.

Darjeeling tea for when you need to calm down and think.

B-52's over the rocks when you've had a rough day/week/month (Bailey's, Kaluah, and Grand Marnier). You can sip them, or you can pound them, regardless they taste delish (like chocolate bubblegum!), and will get you buzzed enough to make you forget your 80 hour work week.

My mom makes the best Corn Bread and white gravy. I can do both pretty good. I love making up a batch of white gravy and then taking some plain white bread and dipping it in.
But I dont do it often because I dont like to stand there and stir FOREVER!

I made some cornbread muffins on Wednesday-I use the coarser ground cornmeal.
For comfort foods-if I'm am feeling sick I have to have some Sprite or ginger Ale which of course I don't usually have in the house. Otherwise I don't really have any particular in mind.

Loveysmummy, I would love some of those soup recipes!

My favourite comfort food is
Zoodles or Alphagetti (or some other Chef Boy-R-Dee pasta-in-a-can) with torn up pieces of Kraft singles cheese. So unhealthy and yet so good ... I typically have this when I have a migraine, because I know I ought to eat something, but there's a strong chance I won't be able to keep it down. Sometimes I have this with toast, too.
