Well it has been over a week so I thought I would give an update.

So far Hanna is doing great. She is a really sweet girl. She fits right in with my other dogs and we have no issues.

The cats are starting to come around. They no longer hide and most walk past her like she isn't even there. A couple still watch her and walk past really slow or run if they think she is going to chase them but otherwise things are good.

And of all the cats, Button actually head butted Hanna the other day. Button is a loner cat so it was very surprising. She does not sleep with the other cats at all. She mostly hangs out in my daughters room by herself. It was like she was letting Hanna know that everything is okay.

Bob head butted Hanna as well but he is a young little freak, but still encouraging.

Penelope and Charmin are still the most leery. They hide when she comes upstairs and run away when she comes in from going outside but I think time will help.

I am sure as the weeks pass they will treat her the same they do their other canine sisters.

I did send Tracy (the lady that had Hanna) an email letting her know that Hanna was well and she was fitting in fine. I didn't hear back from her and I am not really expecting to. I just wanted to let her know that Hanna was in a good home were we all love her.

Oh and the other day I was laying in bed watching TV and I called Hanna up and she jumped up next to me layed down and gave me a big sloppy kiss

I don't have a digital camera so I have to take regular pictures and then get them developed to disk. But My daughters B-day is tomorrow so I am going to buy a disposable for that and will get some pics of Hanna. I will post as soon as I can get them developed.

Great story! You are a true animal lover, and Hanna is lucky to have a great enw home with you.

for her former owner, who cared enough to find Hanna a home instead of dumping her somewhere or putting her in a shelter.

Goodness, I can't believe I missed this thread!

What a generous and good-hearted thing to do! It really warms my heart. It's SO difficult for older/senior dogs to get adopted, even though they can be such wonderful companions.

Best of luck to you and the whole family. I can't wait to see pictures of Hanna.

Well, at least this woman cared for the dog. I say that anyone who abandons an old animal when they move might just as well euthanize it..most people will not adopt any animals over the age of 5!
You did a very kind thing and I hope your other dogs are as understanding.

Well I didn't want to say anything but since you brought it up that is exactly what she was going to do. She said before she left she was so happy that she found a home for Hanna because she was afraid she would have to put her to sleep.

I was kind of shocked but I can also understand it as well. I guess if it were me I would rather put my friend down than to know that she sat in a kennel the rest of her life or sat in kennel for weeks and then was put to sleep alone and with strangers around her.

It is a tough choice I hope I never have to make.

It seems so human when the animal is very sick or is very old but when they are perfectly healthly...well like I said I hope I am never faced with that.

And so far my other dogs seem to have no problems. All three are getting extra attention so no jealousy raises it head. They seem fine with each other. Both of my other dogs have had other dogs in their life than each each other and were adopted from other homes so if anybody understands how it feels to have a new family it is them

This is such a great thread! Keep us updated, I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the photos.
So has Hanna completely settled in? Have all the cats accepted her yet?

Hanna has mostly settled in. She just about follows me everywhere. The only time she is away from me is in the morning. After I let them all outside she will go back upstairs and climb in bed with Greg. Other than that she is by my side. I guess I am her new mommy

All the cats have come around. Penny and Charmin will still raise the back and the hair fluffs up when they run into Hanna around corner but they just sit still until she passes then follow her slowly and sniff her tail..LOL

Other than that things are great

God bless you ASecretK for taking in this senior dog. We need more people like you. At the rescue I volunteer for we currently have some senior dogs. There is Brownie and Scooter, two small dogs about 35lbs (overweight, should weigh 25!) who have been there a while. They came from a hoarder to a run at our kennel and now live in one of the long-term dog cottages (larger enclosure with small house that has a couch inside). They have never before lived in a home. They will probably never get out of the rescue.

We also have a 12 yr old hound/shep mix named brandy that was returned from nine years ago because she's become a little incontinent. The owners didn't shed one tear.

Yeah, we have old cats too, but their stories aren't quite as interesting
. Anyway, I am so glad you took this dog in; you made a very difficult thing just a little easier for that poor woman.
