As some of you may remember, I am fostering some mice for a rescue.

I had problems with fights and two of the mice died. Then I got very attached to one of the remaining mice - the only one that didn't show any aggression. I considered adopting him but I decided not to. I wasn't sure if I could keep him for more than a few months (due to moving) and since he was non-aggressive, he had a chance of going back to the rescue to live with other mice. I figured that since I might not be able to keep him permanently, and since I have a busy schedule, he would be happier with the company of other mice.

So I let him go. It broke my heart to do it but I thought it was for the best.

Well, I just got an email from the rescue... the cohabitation with the other mice didn't work out and unfortunately he died (probably either due to fighting or to stress)

I feel so guilty. I really thought I was doing the best thing for him but instead I sent him to his death.

RIP Benjy
You were the sweetest mouse. You deserved a long and happy life and I'm sorry for what happened.

I'm sorry for your loss. I think you made the best decision you could with the information you had. I'm sure Bengy is happy now, in a peaceful place where there is no fighting.

I am so sorry for your loss, and the regrets you struggle with. Try to remember that you couldn't have known, and you tried to do the best thing in the situation - and that is all any of us can do.

Rest in peace Benjy, enjoy your time at Rainbow Bridge.
