Can I change my cats litter box cold turkey? Shes only been home for 4 days and has only been using it for about 2. The thing is that I ddidnt know a thing about different litters, and I bought a 10lb bag of Special Kitty litter. Its horrible, its supposed to be clumping but it doesnt clump, and it travels to the bottom and then I have to go fishing for the litter that looks wet. She has about 1/3 of the bag left. I planned on going to Walmart or K-Mart (they have more variety) and buying some good stuff today.

Is Tidy Cats a good litter? If its clumping litter its supposed to say so on the bag right?

I don't like Tidy Cat - its too "dirty/dusty" for me especially if you have cats with any white on them. We use Cat's Pride now and it clumps pretty good.

You can just completely change the litter pan and put the new litter in it.

Ah ok, so Tidy Cats isnt good because Ceci is a Calico but she has alot of white (white belly, white paws and white collar)

Im wracking my brain trying to remember what brand of Cat Litter they have at WalMart and KMart.

Yes, you can change a cat's litter cold turkey.

My cat wasn't too fussy at first but she really hated the Armand Hammer Super Scoop. she used it under protest. She was much happier when I changed it.

she came with a bag of Tidy Cats when I adopted her and I was gagging on the dust...and the cat had asthma--so it went in the trash immediately.

I use only natural product litters since there is no dust. I recommend FEline Pine, Yesterday's News, and especially Nature's Miracle (the best)

I don't recommend WBCL since it is food based or SWheat Scoop because it is food based and dusty.

good luck

We use World's Best and love it. I tried Swheat Scoop but found it dusty. The nice thing about either of these is that they are corn and wheat based respectively so if kitty ingests any it won't hurt them. I am very nervous about clay based litters - I was using one when Bijou was a baby and he started coughing and sneezing and I read somewhere that the clay dust could collect in their lungs and draw moisture from their body which would in turn cause clumps in their lungs. I stopped using it immediately since I wasn't willing to take any chances with him inhaling any of the dust.

If you're going from one type of clay to another, I think you can just change straight away. You only need to do the gradual mixing if you decide to change to something else, like pine or corn litter.

I bought Arm and Hammer Super Scoop. I was thinking of getting Feline Pine, but for some reason I got this stuff. I can honestly say I am VERY happy with it, and I think Ceci is too.

I love the way it clumps, it becomes rock hard the instant liquid is spilled (I tested it out...lol) and it has a refreshing smell, with that Special Kitty garbage I bought the bathroom was taking on certain odors.

Ceci really likes it, she actually pooped right away in it and has gone crazy urinating! I guess this is a good sign, and I hope this one is a keeper!
