Our newest addition, 8-week-old Midget, came home from the HS on Friday. I thought we had gotten lucky and avoided a URI, but now this evening she's been coughing and sneezing. Neither Blue or Delilah is sick, so I'm guessing it had to have come from her stay at the HS. I know they do all they can to prevent spread of infection - they keep the kitties with URIs in a different area from the others - but those URIs seem to be spread so easily. She will be going to the vet tomorrow, so hopefully we can get it knocked out quickly.

Blue (16 weeks) had a nasty URI when we adopted her at 7 weeks. I'm hoping she doesn't get sick again now, as she and Midget have been best buddies over the last day or so. Please send ~~~healthy kitty~~~ vibes our way!

Thanks for the advice! I did put Midget back in "isolation" in our bedroom and master bath yesterday. This morning, though, I woke up to find she'd escaped through the space between the door and the floor. We had a blanket wedged in there, but she managed to dig her way out! Little stinker...

Both kittens went to the vet today. He said that Midget's lungs sound clear, no fever, and she's not having any icky discharge from nose or eyes, so he wants me to just keep a close eye on her. If she gets any worse, we'll start her on antibiotics. The vet said he's not terribly concerned about Blue catching it because she should have good immunity against the really bad stuff built up at this point from all her shots, but if she does get sick we'll start her on some medicine too.

Blue came to the vet to get her rabies shot today. When I first got her she was sick and very tiny and skinny; she's healthy now and is a good weight for her size, but according to the vet she is still very little for her age. I guess maybe she will be a very petite kitty!
