Hello, I have 2 new kittens, they are 8 weeks old. I was wondering if someone could offer some advice on what to feed and how often. Right now they are on kitten chow dry, but I would like something better. Should I do all wet food? dry and wet? I'm lost ! LOL

My suggestion is mostly wet with a bit of dry for snacking on during the day. Kittens also need to eat more frequently than adult cats so if possible, feed wet 3 times per day with dry in between. 8 weeks old is really young to be away from their mother - 10 or even 12 weeks is much better. Look in your local pet food store for brands that are for kittens and contain no by-products for sure. If you do a search on this forum you will find suggested quality food brands.

Congratulations on your new baby. We love pictures here so we'll expect to see some soon.

I would get a good dry kitten food and keep it down so they can eat when they want and give a good wet kitten or all stage food 2 or 3 times a day, (depending on if you are available to do so).

Right now I have a mix of Felidae all stages and am giving Natural Balance Venison & Pea wet since one of my kittens seems to have IBS.

Congrats on the new additions!

I also wondered about feeding dry vs wet food ....

This week I experimented by feeding my kitten half wet and half dry ... she seems to LOVE the wet food and leave the dry food behind, so I mixed them up. The last couple of days I just gave her dry food, but she doesn't seem too crazy about it.

I'm planning to give her wet food on the weekends (mixed with dry still) so she doesn't loose the taste for it.

Other than dry being cheaper .. are there any other benefits to feeding dry vs wet??

Wet is truely best and when I feel better I will post the links that prove it....

Wet is more expensive short term but levels out with the less vet visits ... and you will likely feed less ..

That is what I would really like to do is feed all wet. What are some good brands?

Since they are so young I would recommend leaving dry food out just in case they get hungry in between wet meals. I would recommend Royal Canin Babcat which has teenie tiny pieces good for kittens who still have their milk teeth or are transitioning.
