Pippin has been acting funky since yesterday. He's moving very slowly like he is in pain. His ears feel very warm. I don't think this is constipation again because he pooped last night. I think there IS something wrong digestive wise because he's been wandering from box to box and even squatting on the floor. He threw up last night while I was sleeping and again this morning. Last night was all semi digested food, this morning was only bile.
I'm so worried about him. Pippin is my heart and I just want him to be healthy!

His tummy doesn't seem to be tender to the touch, and he actually seemed to enjoy me rubbing it.
He's also been doing some hiding behavior. He got in the cat carrier where I've been keeping Smeagol and climbed on top of the cabinets. He's been crying when he lies down too.
I have a vet appt at 3:15 so I'm going to keep a close eye on him until then.
Please send good vibes and any advise!!

Pippin started acting even more weird and crying a lot, so I called the vet and told them I needed to bring him in right away. I didn't want to take my eyes off him because I thought I was going to turn around and he would be dead.

Well he has a urinary blockage. Apparently he needs plumbing work done on all his pipes.
He is currently at the vet and will be there for a few days while they put in a catheter and do blood tests and such. My poor baby has had a rough couple of months!!
Please keep up with the vibes so that I can have him home soon.

I'm so sorry he got sick again, but it is relieving to know what it is that is making him sick. Here's hoping it will go well!

Thanks so much for the healing vibes. The vet says that his blood work didn't look too bad. The toxins had not built up a lot and started attacking his organs. He also doesn't have crystals at all, so that probably means an infection. I'm wondering if with all his straining to poop and licking himself he caused an infection or irritation. My poor punkin, he just has no luck.
I feel so much better now that he's with the vet and they are taking good care of him. It looks like he may need a diet change what with the constipation and now the urinary blockage.

Have you considered trying him on a raw diet? My Rambo was sick about once a month (usually requiring hospitalization) with strange infections until i switched his diet over to raw. He hasn't been sick since. There are many premade raw foods out there and it makes it quite easy to feed.

ongoing vibes to pippin!

I have looked into raw diets many times because I think it would be wonderful for my kitties. Sadly, I just can't afford it, especially for my 4 adult kitties. The grocery store started carrying more premium food and I'm trying my crew on that a bit this week to see if they like it.
Pippin had a rough start to life and I have to wonder if that's why he sometimes has these issues. He is normally very healthy and active. If I had to guess, I would say that his constipation issues are mostly related to his water intake. He ONLY likes to drink out of my cup.
I'd like to get a water fountain, but the water here is very hard and would quickly kill a fountain. I think the UTI (which is what I think he has right now, no confirmation yet from the vet) is caused by all his straining at the box and constant licking of his bum and genitals.
I have to admit that I'm not always good at keeping their litter boxes clean either. It seems like I just scooped it, then I turn around and it's gross again. My life is just so busy and I tend to be forgetful.
Anyways, I'm trying to be better at that and to also upgrade their food to something more nutricious with fewer questionable ingredients.
I'm waiting on a call from the vet with news of Pippin. Hopefully, I'll be able to bring him home today.

Actually, the straining and licking were probably signs of the UTI and not constipation. My boyfriend's cat had those same signs without any sign of constipation. Since Pippin only likes drinking out of your glass, can you put some glasses of water in various spots around the house? Willow hates drinking out of water bowls and for many years, she only drank out of an old slurpee cup. Now we've switched to glasses or jars because plastic was causing her kitty acne.

Oh Lord, what a terrible time for you and your baby. I am so sorry, but good for you that you got him to the vet as soon as you did.

Healing headbuts and soothing licks from KittenKiya's Clan.

I'm picking Pippin up at 2:15!! I miss my little boy so much. Well big boy. He looks huge now that I have the 2 week old Smeagol. Pippin's head is bigger than Smeagol's whole body.
Anyways, I guess I'm going to get to talk to the vet to see what's up with Pippin. They did some bloodwork and urinalysis while he's been in there, so hopefully we can figure out what's been causing the constipation in addition to the urinary blockage.
He kicked his catheter out yesterday, so they kept him overnight to see if he would pee on his own and he did. Yay!
I'll be keeping a close eye on the little stinker after he gets home. Thanks for all the good vibes. It really does help when you are worried about your furkids.

I'm glad to hear Pippin's coming home! Hopefully, he will be good as new & doesn't have to stay at the vet's office anymore.

The cat that lives at my vet's office will also only drink out of cups. She has kidney failure, so she needs to drink a lot of water. They keep cups out everywhere for her. It took me awhile to figure out why there are mugs full of water sitting everywhere all the time.
