We were never allowed to have the tree up for very long when we were growing up! My stepfather (as much as I love him) was a meanie when it came to holidays and festivals. We used to put the tree up 1 week before xmas and it HAD to come down before the 1st January!

The first Christmas after my parents got divorced the tree went up in November and didn't come down well into February!!!!! It was my Mothers little silent protest and it really annoyed my stepfather when he came to visit or picked one of us up! Sadly though, we've not had a tree up since then!

This is my partners and my first Christmas in our own home and he's insisting on a tree... albeit a fake one but I am really looking forward to having one up again! We are planning on having it up the first week of December... then it will really feel like winter and it will come down a day or so before New Year.... The decorations on the other hand, won't come down until end of January (All the true christmas decs will come down, only the sparkly lights will stay!)

If were up to me, I'd put it up now, lol! But usually we do it the day after Thanksgiving, or sometime during that week. Mine don't do much climbing of the tree, but it is a revolving one, and they have been known to sit and watch it go around and around and around, lolol!!!

We put ours up a different time each year, it's a lot of work it's a 12 foot tree. The cats have never jumped in it but they like to hide under it...Severino's first christmas here he bit a Christmas light, so I had to rush him to the vet but nothing showed up on the x-ray so I must have got it all because I caught him in the act and pulled some out of his mouth!
Another year...because the tree is so big we were putting net lights on it, well somehow Sev got caught up in the net lights, it was Thanksgiving night and we had a houseful of people and I heard some noise, and he was caught up in the lights and kept twisting himself. I hate to think what would have happened if we weren't home!! So now only net lights on the top half of the tree!!! It was different around here when it was just the girls they never caused these kind of problems!! The boys=Trouble!!

We usally put ours up after Thanksgiving but Last year we had to put it up in the middle of October haha. My son who was 3 at the time had made a letter for Santa wiych was just a few drawing of what he wanted from Christmas but was cute anyway he can out cring saying Santa wont ever get his letter and i said why? and he looked up at me and said we dont have a tree up and santa only picks up letters under the tree. and how could i argue with that. So the tree went up that day. I am sure the Tree will be up sooner this year too

We put ours up any time after the first weekend in December and it stays up until Epiphany (January 6). With all the beautiful artificial trees now, they can go up earlier and stay up longer. With real trees I would put it up a few days before Christmas so it would last until January 6. If they get too dried out they can be quite a fire hazard.

I'm no Scrooge, but I think the retailers start Christmas way too soon - by the time it actually gets here I'm already sick of it and I personally don't enjoy it as much. And then, less than a week after Christmas they start putting Valentine stuff out in the stores - this is just nuts!

I try to get mine up early. I love the excitement of it, so sometimes it goes up the first or second week of November. My husband makes fun of me. I also have a tendency to let my kids start opening presents early (like one small one every few days), but my parents were the same way when I was growing up. IMO, if you are hosting Thanksgiving at your home, you should have the tree up to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

This year, we are having two Christmas trees. Our new home has a gorgeous fireplace with windows on each side, so we're going to put up one in front of both windows for the sake of symmetry and then have a lighted garland and stockings on the mantle. I'm so excited.

I don't know if I am going to do a tree this year. Lee will be gone and it will just be me and the kits. And I don't know how Phantom is going to do with a tree. Phenom liked to climb it and I don't know if it can handle 2 cats!!

I don't bother with all that anymore, but I used to put it up no farther out than 2 weeks prior, and take it down on New Years. I only ever get real ones, so I have to be careful not to let them get too dry.

But since my daughter grew up and moved out, I just don't feel the need to go to all the trouble. No one comes to my house anyway, and I like it like that.

I don't think I am going to this year
To many monkeys here 8 cats to hard to keep track of them
Last year all I did was try and keep them out of it, finally had to get some helium baloons and put the fans on them to make them move all the time and it worked for the most part but they still found ways to jump into the middle of it

I usually put up the tree (a 4' tall artificial one) during the first week of Dec. My older girls usually leave it alone, although Katie's been known to climb it and sit in the branches.

Last year was Peter and Claire's first Christmas with me and they completely ignored the tree the first few days it was up. Then, one night in the space of about five minutes, while I was working in another room, they completely demolished it - tore off most of the ornaments and bent the tree frame. No permanent damage and they gave me such cute, innocent looks when I caught them in the act, how could I be mad?
