For about 3 months now, my 17-year-old cat has been experiencing massive stomach rumblings and growlings. She's also lost a pound of her 9-pound weight. However, she doesn't seem to feel bad in the least. I've had her to the vet twice and had a full blood workup done, all results were good. My vet suggested giving her yogurt, which I did for a week with no improvement, then he gave me an enzyme pill to give her, again no improvement. I put her on amoxycillin for a week, no change. Does anyone have a suggestion for this problem?

My cat has been having that too for the last 2 weeks. I thought it could have been her food, so I changed it, but no luck... I am taking her to the vet to figure out why this is happening..... She was really bad gas too....does yours have gas? Maybe I should try the yogurt thing first.... what kind of yogurt?

Did the blood work up include thyroid values? Is she eating and drinking normally? Has the vet done any x-rays or other diagnostics tests?

If you try the yogurt, be sure it doesn't have any flavoring or artificial sweetners. The best kind to get will have active cultures.

One possibility is IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). This site has some info and lists the symptoms: http://www.petcaretips.net/feline_in...l_disease.html

Whether or not that's the problem for your cat (I hope it isn't), at 17, she would definitely benefit from digestive enzymes. The enzymes make it easier for her system to break down her food so that she can get the nutritional benefit from it. I use Prozyme (available from www.entirelypets.com). It's a powder, and you only need to use a small amount mixed into the food.

Hope you can get to the bottom of this soon. Best wishes to you and your kitty.

my cat started having trouble 2 years ago.
She had bad gas, constant diareah, & the only thing that helped somewhat was giving her Science Diet Sensitive Stomach adult.
Over time, she got real sick & she died about 1 month ago.

Whatever it is, & if its the same as my kitty, get her help early on.
I tried & Dr.'s had no clue. Maybe you can get help & the kitty will be ok.

Good luck!
