I don't think that its so odd. The last time that I got married, the cake topper was a bride and groom but they were cats.

My sister was married in our garden and we thought the cat (Monday Monday aka Princess Patches) was locked up in the house, but someone got a pic of her looking up the aisle as the ceremony was going on.

Your not crazy at all. I too was nixed at bring my furbabies to the ceremony but I got married at a mansion we rented. We decorated with pictures of my husband and I and each of my kits had a separate picture frame with them in it in a place of honor by our engagement picture.
