i just had my first abandoned kittens they were left by the mother because they were so ill and i ended up with them. unfortunately they were far too ill and the vet thought they wouldnt even make it through the first night. the smaller weaker one didnt but the bigger one lived for four days before passing. I think that it may have been the vets fault that she did pass the more i reasearch because she was only a week old and he had me give her antibiotics and she went downhill fast when she started them. anyway I LOVE my cats and caring for these two sweet angels has sparked a love in me if there is anyone that has a young kitten that needs a Mommy I would love to give up all of my days and nights for it. I am still waking up every two hours and it is breaking my heart not having a baby to feed burp potty and cleanup!!

While there certainly may be someone here who is located nearby you and will take you up on your generous offer, what we ALWAYS need are people who can join us here in the Pregnant Cats and Kitten Care forum with their knowledge and experiences. Please post often and contribute to the other members here who may need information on taking care of babies.

I would encourage you to contact your local shelters and rescues to see if anyone needs a foster home. You could certainly arrange to foster a pregnant queen and help raise her babies if you wanted. The need for good foster housing is great nearly everywhere so I would check around in your area to see what assistance you could provide. If you don't know of any rescue or shelter organizations, call your vet's office. The vet techs and normally the front desk staff as well is well-schooled on the rescue scene locally. They are a great resource.

Best of luck,

I agree with the above poster. I'm also located in IN and fostered for the Tipp. Humane Society. Unfortunately, our first litter had to be put down due to Parvo/Distemper so we can't foster unvaccinated cats (or kittens under 12 weeks) but our first litter was 4-5 weeks without a mother and needed a lot of attention, so you might enjoy that! There are also pregnant cats there that need fostered as well. So I would contact your local HS and foster some underage/underweight kittens for awhile, you can always adopt one of your fosters and this way you're helping many more cats!

Just to wet your appetite, I'll post some pics of our adorable litter....

My FI, the jungle-gym

My favorites, the two calico girls.

Hope that inspired you! If you're in Tippecanoe County or anywhere near-by, feel free to PM me and I can help you get set-up with a HS near you!

Oh, also if you don't feel up to the responsibilities of fostering (though it is SO rewarding), and really only want one new kitten, I do know some people in the Indy area that have rescued some kittens and you could easily take one of them.

Ok, I'll work on getting in touch with the people I know that have rescued some kittens lately. What area of IN are you from? Have you stopped by your local HS? I know the Tipp. one is over-flowing with cats.

As far as fostering, you could try to talk your husband into it. The woman that taught me about fostering has 5 of her own cats (along with 3 dogs, 5 birds, and 2 now grown-up kids) and she's been fostering for 15+ years! She just keeps the kits in the basement so her cats can't get to them. Or locked in one of the bathrooms. Her cats got mad at her the first couple of rounds b/c they didn't like the new smells, but they got over it pretty fast, especially when they figured out that the invaders left after a couple of weeks.

PM me when you get this so I can give you some people's contact information (in a slightly less public way than the board).

My poor husband has said NO NO No to every cat I have ever fostered or adopted! Then when they get here, I see him petting and cuddling them when he doesnt know I am looking! He understands that my fostering is what I can do to make the world a happier, safer place for homeless cats and kittens.and we do have 4 cats of our own. You sound like a natural born foster to me. Picture a never ending supply of darling tiny babies,he he.

Yes, the woman that taught me pretty much everything I know is a saint for all animals! They also have a horse on their 2 acres of land and have had a miriad of other pets (chinchillas, rats, mice, ferret, iguana, etc). I'm still starting out slow, my FI and I have 2 cats in our apartment so when we foster, we confine the fosters to either our spare bedroom or the bathroom. But when we have a house we'll keep them in the basement and we'll add a dog or two to our own pet collection.

Try taking your husband to the HS and making him hold the kittens, that will usually make them cave! If not, you can always try begging, little kid style, promising you'll take care of them!
You can also try assuring him that fostering cats/kittens for 3-5 weeks at a time for awhile is much better than getting a whole new cat for 20 years! (Little does he know that fostering is an addiction and you'll end up doing it for years).

It really is a very rewarding experience to raise the kittens (sometimes bringing them back from the brink of death) and socializing them so they can be adopted to good homes, but I will warn you, it's very hard to give away the first couple of sets, and even harder if one dies, but in the end, you're still doing so much good that it keeps you going back for more!
