Happy Thanksgiving!! (a day late and a dollar short, I think
) But nonetheless, I hope you all had a fabulous day yesterday, and I need to write to the calendar company that thinks that Canadian Thanksgiving is Monday.

We had our dinner yesterday. It was my first time roasting a bird, and it came out beautifully, and we had mashed potatoes, gravy, veggie gratin, turnip, and cranberry fixings. And stuffing
. My grandma made her famous butter tarts for dessert, I had the last one this morning for breakfast.

Happy Thankgiving!

Please, would someone share a GOOD STUFFING RECIPE?

Mine came out kind of soggy... everyone seemed to like it but me. I don't have a lot of experience with turkeys and we'll have one again at Christmas. Thanks in advance!

Cheers, from

The actual holiday is Monday. Today is the day that all the stores are closed, except my work...of course. I went to my boyfriends aunts for dinner last night. We didn't know until we got there that both sides of the family were going to be there. That was weird. The food was disguisting. The turkey was ice cold and tough, the stuffing was too chewy, the potatoes were lumpy and cold and were made with those yellow potatoes. The dinner rolls were stale. The one thing I was looking forward to was the pumpkin pie, and it was fresh out of the oven and ended up tasting like eating mushy nutmeg. Thats the last time I'm spending Thanksgiving there.

We always do the get-together on the Sunday as well just so everyone can kick back and recuperate on Monday before tackling another work week even if it is only 4 days instead of 5.

I'm sorry to hear your dinner was such a disappointment. With so many in my husband's family, we all bring part of the dinner. We're fortunate that all John's brothers married good cooks and his sister did an awesome job on the turkey and stuffing. Next year you'll have to come to our family dinner.
We've been known to bring along guests that have no other place to go and we don't like to see anyone being alone for the holidays.

Dinner was fabulous! Roast turkey, stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce (I can't stand canned sauce) whipped potatoes, gravy, turnip, cauliflower with cheese sauce, pickles, queen olives, rolls and butter, the spicy V-8 juice, a selection of cheeses, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, cherry cheesecake, cookies. I even had Thanksgiving crackers for everyone (like Christmas crackers only in fall colours). I'm still stuffed even though dinner was yesterday! Actual holiday is today, but we always do the dinner on Sunday, like just about everyone else!

Lots of leftovers - anyone want me to send them a turkey sandwich?

Eeesh - mayo??? So - bread is white or whole wheat, butter with the mayo or instead? Stuffing (you'll love it). Would you like lettuce on that? How about some pickles on the side?
