Advice Needed

OK, has anyone here ever pawned something? I am totally broke right now and need fast money to buy groceries, catfood and gas for my car. I get paid next week but my entire check is going for my mortgage pmt because I am behind. I have a wedding set that I was thinking of pawning to get the funds.

I can't do a payday loan because of the fact my check is going to the mortgage. I don't know what else to do at this time. If anyone has any advice about pawn shops and what I might get for the rings let me know. The engagement ring has one center diamond (I don't know the size but it looks to be maybe 1/4 carat. there is a small diamond on either side and the wedding band has 4 small diamonds. This is set in white gold and is over 40 years old.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I dont know if this works where you are, but my ex bf used to bring the laptop or other valuable things and get a amount of money for it, then after a month or two he had to pay the money back to get his things back..
Is this a pawn shop?

That sounds like a pawn shop Fran.

Personally I have never done it and I use my credit card as a 'back up' for when we are low on funds... have you tried calling some of your creditors and asking about deferral of payments or lowering the amount for now (even hydro companies etc will allow you to pay a min payment and pay more later if you explain the circumstances), I realise this wont help right now but will help lower costs for next month

Or speak to your bank about an overdraft on your account that you can use for now?

I know pawn shops will not give you even 30% of what the ring is worth...They are there to make a buck when people are having hard times, they will not give you alot at all. It really sucks. I one time pawned a ring and got $50 for it!!

Anyway, when I'm behind, I usually use my credit card even though I hate to...Do you have an emergency credit card you can use?

I don't have ANY credit cards at all. We are going to take our cans to be recycled. We can get a few dollars for that. If I can get $150 for the ring, that would be great. I think it is maybe worth about $500.

But then your ring would be gone...wouldn't you regret that? Isn't there anyone you can borrow from?

Yes, they usually only give you 30% of what the ring is worth. They then turn around and chrage more to the buyer of it.That way they make money.
Guns are a high pawn thing here.Anything like computers and such are worth more money than rings and such.
Do you have anyone that you can ask for money?
If you go to Church, often they will help out with food in an emergency. There are also food banks........at community centers to help with food.

Can you sell your blood at a blood bank? clean someones house for payment, maybe a neighbor? maybe do someones yard work? If you lived close to me I would pay ya to rake up my leaves and get my garden and patio ready for the winter.

When I was in college, I pawned a lot of stuff. My computer, my boyfriends digital camera (his choice though, not mine), dvd's, my playstation, video games, jewelry. All together, I probably got less than $500 for that stuff. The computer alone cost just over a thousand dollars, the camera $500, the playstation $200. I regret pawning all of it though. Buy backs are a good option. Here they give you like 30 days to pick it up.

I was thinking of pawning our Xbox because we never use it (I won it at work) I called them and they would only give me $25 for the consol, a game and 2 controllers! I have it listed on Ebay where I can get a lot more for them. The rings are not mine. They are just some jewelry I ran across and didnt cost me anything. There is no one to borrow from at this time. We WONT borrow from my hubby's parents. They are way too many strings attached. We have in the past and it isnt worth it. We have enough food to get by for awhile. I will be contacting a church that I have gotten food from in the past.

One of DH's co-workers sells his plasma as often as allowed. He "uses" the money to buy stuff for a hotrod that he really can't afford to begin with. He has been doing this for several yrs. I think its like 30-40 buck/session.

I take a blood thinner, so I am not an acceptable candidate for blood/plasma donor. I went down to 2 pawn shops and one offered me $20 for 2 of the rings and the other offered me $60 for all 3. I did not sell them to them. I will keep them. I ended up doing a small payday loan. I also will be doing a loan against my 401K and pay that back at about $12 per payday. I wont get the money for about 2 weeks so I am going to call my mortgage company Monday and see what we can do. Thanks for all the advice tho
