Hey there JackandMolly,
I don't want to offend you in anyway with the things I'm about to say ok, so keep that in mind.
I live in the same province as you do. I know that here people don't give a hoot about kittens. There are so many kittens going for free in the paper these days, it's unreal! Many people I know that live in small town Sask take guns to kittens just to keep the population down! It is so terrible. I'm just saying that these days around here, a moogie (non-purebred) is more likely to end up at a shelter & Put to sleep, dumped on a rural road or killed than end up in good, forever homes where the owners actually take the care to spay/neuter the kittens/cats.
I'm sorry if I come off as rude or anything like that, because it's completely not how I mean to be, but I just really hope you take this into consideration.
Depending on the area which you live in, there are low cost spay-neuter programs. If you live in Regina, there is a low-cost spay/neuter program.

THE SPCA I believe is trying to put there program in place called
Also Priaireland Vet is very reasonable, if they know your situation.
Here Why. My friends cat got into a fight and needed some stitches.
They stitch him up. The vet phoned my friend to ask if she would like
him neuter. My friend could not afford it. So the Vet made her a deal
she could not refuse. He would do the neuter for $40 plus the other
part of the vet bill.
So talk to your Vet, see if what they can do. Some will make monthly
payments schedules and others will lower the bill to what you can
