Any little girls like me on TCS? - Page 2

Barbie and Ken were named for the children of the woman who came up with the doll - which was based on a German doll - Bild Lili.

All you collectors: Remember to keep your dolls in boxes or their value seriously depreciates....I always hate to have to keep items in boxes but it really does reduce their value greatly if they are taken out...

(I always think of Toy Story 2 when I say that...and the "Grandpa doll" waddling around in his box.)

Several years ago there was an auction and one collectible was a prototype torso and the breasts had nipples! That really would have gone over good.

Well as I am 49 I still have "my " Barbie!!! The wedding dress too. I also have Skipper. My sis got Midge and whatever her daughter's name is!!! So I wonder how old I was when I got her-had to be around 1964 or so. Mom also made some dresses and knit one for them too!! Too bad I don't have those patterns!!
When people come over with little girls-I do not let them play with them!! (even though they were well played with my me & sis!!)

No But I look at the stuffed animals. Sometimes the baby dolls.

I had the Dream House!
I loved it too. With the pink elevator that would come off track and send Barbie and her friends flying through the room
But to be honest, I was more into G.I. Joe and Legos I was and am a tomboy I think that's why God gave me boys. I wouldn't know what to do with a little girl
My mom still has my all my Barbies and My Little Ponies. She kept them in hopes I'd have a little girl

Now, it's funnier that you could possibly imagine.
I didn't have Barbie either. I had Tammy. Barbie was too expensive. Later on I had some of Barbie's friends. (This was late 60's - early 70's)

Have you heard about Divorce Barbie?
She comes with all Ken's stuff.

When I was little I used to drop barbies into hot pans - I ruined so many pans doing it (barbie doesn't melt very well BTW).

I am more of an Eeyore person myself

What did Jane look like? I had a Cindy doll (my name too) but for some reason, Cindy was twice the size of Barbie but the same proportion so I would pretend the other Barbies had a giant friend that kicked A$$ for them...

But IIRC, if Barbie was a real woman, she would be 7 ft tall with measurements of 38, 22, 40 or something like that....!!

She was shorter than Barbie, and also a bit rounder. I know she had flat brown hair, and hips.

When I opened her I can remember thinking "Oh God, what did my parents do this time?"

I was the kid who would often get weird toys that are now funny.

Thinking about that, I did melt a yoghurt pot onto the head of one of my Barbies! She was at the 'hairdressers' and apparently a real hairdryer was too hot for the pot!

Forget Barbie, anyone got a Turleen? Much more my thing

I had a Sindy when I was little but tbh I never much liked dolls - horrid, plastic things. Instead, I pushed teddy bears around in a pram

Yep and I love having little cousins so I have an excuse to play barbies especially when I miss being little and I can't wait till my niece is big enough to play hide and seek and tag. She will think I am the coolest aunt.
