Monday I took my 2 fosters to the shelter to get their S/N. The vet took my little boy kit and opened him up and said whoops this is a boy. I cant believe it. Poor little Dobby (formerly Harry Potter, he just looks more like Dobby the house elf to us) got cut open for nothing. I know they had a lot of surgeries that day but still! Also he now has a little lump on his back that wasnt there before, is that from an injection? This is not helping me not get more attached to him, at all! here he is, I know he isnt a fancy or unusual kitten but he is an absolute sweetheart. I think I have a home for his tuxedo sister, she is a sweetie, too.

My gosh thats uncalled for. How could the vet not notice that you kitty was a he? Busy or not 5 seconds to look and see which sex the cat was would of prevented this from happening.

I'd demand that they eat the bill!
How can a vet not know what sex a kitten is, for Pete's sake!!!

Awww..we've had that happen at our feral cat clinic but that was because the cats were already "sexed" and then the vet determined that the person who sexed the cat was wrong.

I've heard of stray females being cut opne only to find they'd already been fixed but that's terrible. I agree.. they should eat the bill. He is a cutie though... hope he's not too worse for wear after that. Oh, and I'd call the vet about the bump on his back too.

well it was the shelter vet, not my personal vet. I guess it was an assembly line , and they got mixed up. The shelter cats do NOT get the vet care as peoples pets. I dont want to offend any vets, but I have been fostering for years and have seen some unpleasant stuff. The shelter just cant afford expensive vet care. As it is, I am paying these 2 kittens vet bills (at the wholesale price the shelter pays) just so I could get them in, things are that tight at the shelter. But you are right, if it were someones pet, they would be pissed!
Does anyone know anything about that little lump on Dobby's back could be? I can take him back to the vet this week, I was just wondering.

Is he sensative about the lump? It could be swelling from an injection but I've never seen swelling last more thana few hours.

I understand clinic vets... I took wickett to the neuter scooter to get fixed and they do hundreds of cats in a day so I see how there could be a mix up... still... poor Dobby.
