Carl has been sick all week (not surprising since he came from a rescue with 60+ cats in the same room). The shelter gave me some antibiotics (Clavamox) and he has had a full week of two droppers/day. So now I am done with his medicine and he is still snotty and sneezing.

He has gotten to the point of being sick where he is very sneezy and snotty (the mucus is thick and green, sorry TMI). I know with people, it is a good sign when you start draining the mucus, is this true in cats too?

I also know it is allergy season in most places. We live in South FL, and I don't have any allergies, so I don't really know what to look for in Carl. We do heavy cleaning once a week (vacuum, dust, etc). Could it be that Carl has allergies? I would think that since he is sneezing actual stuff (instead of just sneezing clear) that it is more than allergies.

Should I let the meds do their thing (done with dosage) and see how he is in a few days? Is it normal for a cold to last over a week?

My cats have a cold right now too. I'm giving the adult cats Clavamox too and it doesn't seem to be working. I've only been using it a couple days though. I read the instruction pamphlet however and it said that Clavamox was for infections in wounds and UTI's and stuff, it didn't ay anything about respiratory infections. My kittens, however, are getting Amoxi Drops which, in the instructions, says that it is for respiratory infections and it does seems to be working pretty well.

Have you called the shelter and told them that the cat is still sick? Maybe ask if you can start him on Amoxi Drops. It is for adult cats too. Talk to the vet on staff there and maybe he can tell you what to do.

green/yellow/brown mucous is indicative of an infection. Could be a cold but I've never heard of one lasting as long as you state.

Best bet, call the vet.

I will call the resident vet at the shelter today (she had told me that they would supply all the meds for any illness that resulted from his stay at the rescue--like a cold or infection).

Thanks for the help, I thought 1 week for a cold was a bit long.

Lunchbox is right. Green mucus (whether human or animal) is a sign of an infection. The vet should have something for the problem.
