With all the cats living here, one thing that I've heard of, but never had a problem with....is wires. But now, I have a "wire chewer" with a voracious appetite for all things long and electrical.

I found Peanut Butterum on the desk just a few minutes ago, happily gnawing on the power wire for the laptop. I shooed her away and checked the wire, and she had chewed it in several places. So, I went on a little search and found that she has also chewed wires on the telephone, the desktop computer speakers, and the video wire on the back of the DVD player.

So, I guess that tomorrow I will try to find some bitter apple spray, or something equally yucky, so that the little twit don't bite into something meaner than her

When Bagheera was a tiny baby he chewed wires. He eventually stopped though after we used bitter apple on him. It wouldnt work now because he has decided he loves the taste.

Yup, that can be a disaster waiting to happen! Pandora chewed on a lamp cord and it gave her the shock of her life! had to spend 2 days in the emergency hospital with severe burns to her mouth.... thank goodness I was home when it happened otherwise my little baby wouldn't be here

Mine have got better with age but we used to have cord protectors on everything - a friend of mine swears that if you rub bar soap along the wires the cats don't chew them - but Boomer will drink bath water with soap in it so not sure how well that will work - but worth a try - mine will happily chew on bitter apple sprayed stuff

Nuh uh...might give me away!
Does the kitty have other things to chew on? When Scotty was going through that phase, I had some drinking straws. I tied a knot in a few of them (so they weren't just flat) and he chewed on those instead of wires. Ahh, distraction at its best.

That bitter spray never worked for my cats either.
I like the sound of those CritterCords that lookingglass suggested.

Radar doesn't go for power cables (thank the lord!) but any others are fair game. He's got through 4 or 5 pairs of headphones, all the speaker cables for my home cinema audio, a TV aerial cable, and 2 telephones - we no longer have a working telephone in the place thank you Radar!
