Has anyone used a heated pad/bed for their cat? Sophie has arthritis, especially in her hips, and the cooler weather is really affecting her. She gets Duralactin mixed with her food, but she's getting pretty foxy in her old age, and tries to avoid eating the bit of food with the capsule contents mixed in it. I'm going to see if I can find another supplement to give her, but am wondering about getting a heated pad for her. For the past few weeks she's been hanging out in the coldest corner of the house (silly girl), and she's really getting stiff, so much so that she won't even try to step into the litter box (that's a whole other story). Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a Snuggle Safe.
It's a gel filled disk that you heat in the microwave and it stays hot for 8-12 hours and is the perfect size for putting in the bottom of cat beds or in carriers.
It's simply great.
My MIL made a quilted pouch for it so that we could just put it directly in the cat bed.

So much safer than heating pads.
On the cheaper side there are Purr Pads which look like nothing more than batting, but they hold body heat really well and cats love them.

My cat has arthritis also, especially in her hips, and we give her Cosequin twice a day. During the cooler months, I also give her a couple of drops of SynFlex in her canned food twice a day.

For bedding, my cat is very finiky. She doesn't like anything super soft, prefers the hard floor, so I have an old comforter that I've folded up and she lays on. It's thick enough to keep her warm, but not too fluffy for her. This year, I'm going to get one of the heated beds from Drs. Foster & Smith http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...?N=2002+113876 and put under the top fold of her comforter.

Are Cosequin and SynFlex available at pet stores, or only thru the vet? I went to one of our two pet supply stores this morning;they didn't have any heated beds/pads, and only 1 joint supplement--and it was for dogs.

I use the Snuggle Safe discs for my cats, too, and I like 'em.
Hope your kitty feels better soon!

Is that something that's easy to find? I've been to 3 different pet supply stores, and haven't found anything like that. I think I'd rather use something that isn't electical; Sophie's becoming incontinent and I'd feel better with something that I could just microwave.
