Hello all. I am new around here. We just adopted two 4 month old boys who on the whole are doing pretty good. Here is the first of several questions I have.

We made the family room their safe room. They have been there for about a week and have seemed to have settled in just fine. I think they are now at the point where we can let them explore the rest of the house. (2500 SF total). We really would like to move the litter box from the family room to the bathroom just down the hall. Can this be done?

Temporary put a 2nd box in the bathroom you want them to use. And confine them in the bathroom for awhile - about a day. Make sure they use the one in the bathroom.

Take the other one away. For a few days, I'd confine them to the bathroom overnite to be sure they know where it is.

For 2 cats, you should provide at least two boxes and maybe even three. Can you add one to the bathroom and maybe make the one in the family room a covered box? (if it isn't already)
That may be a better solution for the people and cats using the room. I now have seven boxes in my house and I think my two kittens, (12 and 16 weeks), have used all of them at one time or another.

ETA: I didn't mean to say that only the two kittens use the boxes, but focusing on them as the newest ones in the house finding all the boxes. I also just added a Booda Clean Step to the house, replacing the kitchen one with it. The feral cat that comes in occasionally is leery of it so he just automatically goes to the basement to use one of the other boxes.

I have a total of 7 boxes and have moved them to different spots on occassion. I just take the cats to the new location and show it to them, even scratching my hand in the litter so they will know .... LOL ..... and I havent had any problems.

You could also take a bit of their poo and put it in a litter box that you place in the bathroom. That way, they smell their mess and will know to use the new litter box also.
