Cat tried to get out

I have had Bob for a year and a half, and last night he tried to get out for the 1st time. I feel like a bad kitty mom, that he doesn't want to be with me. Later in the evening he tried biting me while I was petting him. Nothing rough or aggressive and he didn't break the skin. He didn't give me a hard time when I put the trash out or left for work this morning. I should add that I was late getting home last night - maybe he was mad because he wasn't fed on time!

I am moving later this fall from an apartment to a house and I'm really afraid he'll try to get out - and succeed this time. He was a stray when I got him and perhaps he still has the roaming gene.

Is he neutered? If he is not I would suggest it. It may calm down his aggression and his roaming insticts.


Also, I have a cat named Bob too

He's neutered, but it was later in life (just before I got him). The vet thinks he's between 4-5. He's never tried this before. I'm wondering if it's because one of my neighbors has a kitten who's just old enough to go into heat (I don't know if she's fixed).

After I move I'm considering getting another male cat as a playmate. Freckles is 9 and much too sedate as he's always been an indoor cat and is half of Bob's size. Maybe that will help.
