Food Not Agreeing with Cat?

This morning, before I was fully awake, I heard Miki making a wierd noise. Because I was half asleep I didn't think much of it and drifted back to sleep. When I woke up fully 15 min later I crossed the room to find bits of wet food on the floor. The food dish is far enough from the water dish that no food gets in the water. So I'm wondering how the food got there. Also, the bits of food were in two places. Right near the bowl and a few inches away. Some were in clumps. I think Miki might have thrown up this morning and that's the sound I heard. Could it be the food?

Usually you can tell if the food has been vomited by excess liquid around area. My experience with odd howls or deep vocal merows is just that. The only way to really be sure is to watch next feeding. Is this a new food, or has there been any signs previous?

Its a food they've been eating for a while now, probably as long as I've had them. I don't know about liquid around the area since it was on carpet, but the food was soggy and about a food or two from the bowl and water bowl. The sound I heard was almost like a hacking noise, like she was trying to cough something up. At first I thought, maybe a hairball, but neither cat has ever gotten one, and I found no hairball. Just the soggy food.

Sometimes they will hack and sound like they are coughing up a hair ball but not finish, usually one is sure to come within a couple of days.

Well the soggy food was found where she had been doing the hacking. Well, I have found no other messes, so I think Miki is ok now. I'll keep an eye on her just to make sure.
