gayf- thankyou sooooo much for all your knowledgable and kind answers!! I found the information you provided me with very helpful and also gained a bit more insight into the potential things that could have gone on with Jasmine's breeder. Maybe she was just an "accident" (I hate to use that term) between a sir and dame she didn't intend to breed...but just didn't have altared in time? There are a number of factors that could have gone on. I tried to get ahold of her again to day to possible find out some answers, but wasn't able to. I will just settle on the fact that I am blessed with a wonderful little girl, reguardless of her past
. Thankyou soo much for your help! Also, I never saw her littermates, as she was the only one dropped off at the shelter that day,so I have no knowledge as to what they may have looked like or what quality they would be considered to be. Also, on her papers, it acknowledges that she was pet quality and sold as a spay. So that's a good thing. Maybe if her breeder did that for her, she did it for other kittens who may have not been show quality! I hope so!! I would hate to think of people just "breeding" non show quality kittens in non-reputable catteries after buying a pair from the breeder. Hopefully that is not the case though.
I could have been wrong to assume she was a BYB (I see a TON of that in the shelters I foster out of day in and day out...so it was my natural inclination to question that when others started bring up her lineage.) We'll give her the benifit of a doubt!
Well, I think it's safe to say I do have a very "luscious" lol, and loveable little girl that i'm blessed to have in my life! (reguardless of her show quality or not.) Thankyou once again! You have been soo helpful! Also, I pm'd you a minute ago with a few more questions. Thankyou again! Have a great day!

That's wonderful that his blood tests came back with some good news!
It is so nice that he has you fostering him and taking good care of him!

All of the girls ate the mixture of their old food and the R/D well this morning....so hopefully that will continue! We'll see. I'm open to other options, so if this doesn't work, i'll try something else to keep them at a healthy, managable weight. Have a good one!

Starry, if you ever consider showing her in HHP classes, I'm sure she would bring home a few ribbons; she is a very pretty kitty

Why thankyou!
I think Jasmine's eago is inflating now lol! Do you by chance know what the requirements for entering her in one of those contests? It sounds like a lot of fun. I would love to praticipate in something like that because every time a cat show rolls around Memphis...the breeders and other organizations are soo kind and always donate to the rescue organizations i volunteer and foster for- it would be nice to praticipate. I definitely wouldn't do it with my other girls...they stress easily...but Jasmine is like having a small dog trapped inside of a kitty's body lol...she LOVES attention and doesn't mind noise. She was purring at the vets office the other day and kissing everyone lol...she was oblivious to all the barking dogs. I think she would do well with something for household pets. Do you know what the requirements are ? She's spayed, fully vetted, lisenced. She was unfortunately declawed before I adopted her- (I'm against it
) and she definitely has a little extra "fluff" to her lol...do they judge on that, or more so on personality?

Thankyou! Jasmine is definitely enjoying those comliments after the vet told her *gasp* she was a little too plump the other day lol.
(lol, she's my little sugar momma!) Thankfully though, her and the others are taking quite nicely to the new food today. I'm mixing it in very gradually with their old food. Do you know what type of requirements they have to enter a feline in the household pet catageory? It sounds like a lot of fun!
The last show I went to I had a blast at!! It was one of the CFA shows. (I ran the booth for my rescue organization and passed out stuff- it was soo much fun and all of the breeders were soo nice! We raised soo much in donations that day for our shelter that we were able to purchase all new cages for the cat room!!! It was great!). I love seeing all of the different breeds and colors that show up there too (I feel in love with the most gorgeous orange/red Maine Coon male- he looked like a little lion!)....I got to catch a few minutes of the judging for the household kitties and that was nice also. I think it would be fun. I would love to show Isabella my odd-eyed Turkish Angora too...but i would never do that to her- she's way too skiddish. I will definitely look into entering Jasmine just for fun.

With her being declawed, you could only show her in ACFA or TICA shows. CFA shows ban any declawed cat - pedigree or HHP. But I'm sure you can find a TICA or ACFA show - check their websites.

The basic requirements are spayed/neutered over 8 months old, good health, weight in proportion to body size, well groomed, clean, etc. And a sweet personality helps too

Thanks for the info! We'll have to work on making her weight a wee bit more proportinate lol before I can enter her into anything it sounds like.
I think that it's wonderful CFA bans declawed kitties!
I'm glad to see an organization that condones the disfiguring of animals.
Her former owners loved her to pieces from what I picked up on (just found themselves in the middle of a divorce living in places they couldn't take her). I think they declawed her without knowledge of what really went into it at the time...which is sad...but everyone makes mistakes. I will look into TICA and ACFA information on the HHP guidelines. I'd love to enter her in one just for fun. She's definitely the type of girl to make friends with the judges lol. Thanks for the info! Have a good night!

Hiya! My cats were on original SD, and were carrying around a few extra pounds themselves (all of them
) despite being indoor/outdoor cats. I switched them to Felidae dry (but mine get the Chicken and Rice version because of BB's fish allergy) a few months ago (I just realized tonight that I am getting to the bottom of my 2nd 16 lb bag of food- time to reorder!
) and they are all back to their proper weight, while free feeding
. I posted somewhere else today, that I really think it was all the fillers in the SD-too many empty calories and not enough of the nutrients they needed, so they ate more of the empty calories...especially as they are all 7 or older (of course, this is all IMHO
). Their coats are softer and shinier too. Just a thought...

I've thought about entering Meggie in the Pets catagory too, but I just don't know enough about it. I guess my biggest concern was all those other cats and germs, and at ours, it lasts several days- I didn't know if people leave their cats there overnight, or if they all go back home (or to their motels, etc.) at night. Can anybody tell me what the typical is the protocol?

Cats are never allowed to spend the nite in the showhall alone - you either take them home (locally) or they go back to the hotel room.

As far as germs - the cats don't come into direct contact nor share litter pans (except for if you bring more then one to show - they are kept in the same cage together). Also the cages are covered in the benching area - you bring your own curtains, towels, etc. A lot of exhibitors will bring portable cages now. And the judges wipe down the tables with a little disinfectant between judging each.

As long as the cats are not too overweight, you'll do fine. I've seen some in the HHP's that I felt were too overweight; yet the judges pick them - so maybe some are a little forgiving since they are HHP's and spoiled. For pedigrees they are not so forgiving on overweight!

For TICA and ACFA; while they allowed the declawed, they do NOT encourage it at all. They realize that many cats are adopted from shelters already done that way. But they do stressed that its not a good thing to have done.

that's good to know!
(Jasmine was unfortunately declawed before I adopted her, so maybe she'd be one they'd overlook on that note). Humm...and we're still working on the weight thing lol. I looked at the acfa website last night....no shows scheduled anytime in the near future for Memphis, so that ones off the list. I will check the TICA site and see if they have anything anytime in the near future near Memphis. They sound fun. I've been to 3 CFA shows..and those were a blast, so i'm sure the others are nice as well.

Hey girl! Thanks for the reply on the food! My girls are doing well on the SD so far...so I will see how they are doing health/coat/weight wise when they finish the first bag (It's a little one...so it shouldn't take too long). If they are not doing well, I will definitely give Felidae a try! Thanks for the recommendation. (Can you buy that at say, Petco or Petsmart? Or do you have to order it online?) Thanks!
