Hello all
! Thanks in advance for any responses.
I have just taken in a Farel cat and want to get him neutered. I found a place that will do this for $40.00. I was wondering if anybody knows if I need to have him vaccinated before they will do this procedure? If so, do you have any idea how much this will cost? Also, are there any after-care things that I would need to pay for, like pain meds? I would like to get him neutered asap because there is a female cat from the same litter that I would also like to bring into the house and don't want her to get pregnant before I have a chance to get the male neutered.

First off, yes there is a round of vaccines before neuter-spay. Price I can't tell you, for Maia it was 25 per vaccine, one is in 2 visits and they are very important. Details I am sure your vet can tell you. You really want to spay your female as well, it not only prevents pregnany, but other medical and or behavioral factors as well. Do yourself and both kits a favor, take both in before 5 months for their vaccines and checkup, blood tests, worm, mites, so on....... and talk to your vet, this is the only way to truely feel comfortable about your decisions! goodluck!

Check around in your community and ask the vet. there are programs for free spaying and free rabie shots. I think there are other necessary vacinations as well/ It can get pretty pricey. You couldn also call several vets and explain that this is a stray, and maybe they will give you a price break.

The spay/neuter clinic I use also offers discounted vaccines. Check into that, worth a try!

Call around to local vets and let them know you have a farel, some will do it for a discount. As for the vaccinations, yes you do have to have a round before the neutering.

When I got 8-Bit fixed he didn't have to have pain meds, and had dissolving stitches. So, all I did was bring him home, let him sleep, and he was fine. It depends on how the vet is going to do the procedure.

Also, I know that my Vet only does neutering on specific days, so make sure that you call a head to get everything together.

Most places that fix feral cats will also provide the vaccinations that are required. The vet clinic that I volunteer at uses dissolving stitches and glue and no pain medication is provided. Also, even though this male will be neutered he will still carry active sperm for about a month after he has been neutered, so it would be best to also get your female spayed and keep them seperated until she has been spayed.
