Hey! Im new here- And I just had a funny but annoying thing happen.. I had gone on vacation for 2 weeks and came back and we had knats flying around.. Apparently our potatoes had gone bad while we were gone (apparently were on there way there before we left but we hadnt noticed and i forgot they were there- YUCK!) and so when we came back we had gnats. Well I bought lots of those FLy ribbon things with the really sticky stuff that will attract flys- And I also got a fly stick which is something u just leave out also with VERY sticky stuff on it (like a very strong GLUE) and i have had it out for about a week.. Well the cats never had a problem with it and never had tried to go near it.. Until this evening.. I went out to my car and came back in and my cat looked like he was soaked in water.. So I touched him and it was EXTREMELY sticky stuff.. Well I dont know how to get this stuff out! I used to work as a bather with a petstore-- with dogs- But never have run into this problem.. I dont have any kitten shampoo here-- So I used the next best thing- most gentle thing- and that was baby shampoo.. Well that didnt do a darn thing- So I used dish soap- the kind for greese-- Cause I remember hearing that helps sticky stuff.. Well nope that didnt do it either.. So does any one have any ideas about what i should do?? I need to do it tonight because I cant let him get on anything so hes in a kennel-- And I dont want him to stay in there.. So PLease someone HELP!! Some kind of at home remedy if possible!! THanks guys.. My poor kitty doesnt know what to do with himself!!

Oh lord, I would be worried about him trying to groom it off and swallowing some. I wouldn't use anything stronger on him than the dishsoap tbh. If all else fails, could you trim the sticky bits off? Better a clipped cat than a sticky one, especially cos the glue won't be much good for him if he swallows it I'm sure.

Mineral oil is what works best to unstick animals from glue traps, so I would say you should rub your cat down good with mineral oil, then give a bath using dawn dish soap.

If all else fails, time for a lion cut.

Rub them down with either Cooking Oil or Baby Oil or Mineral Oil, rub this in real good, This should help get the glue off.. Then wash them with a dawn dish soap like Ginger's Mom stated.....

I know on dogs you can use murphy's oil and that get the glue off, but I don't know if I'd try it with a cat,, their skin is pretty sensitive. Good luck!!

Let us know if it helps..

Otherwise kitty is gonna have to be trimmed....

Thank tyou so much for all your input! And BABY OIL WORKED!!! I had washed him 4 times already with dawn, baby shampoo, Fresh orange soap (its like a goop or whatever that takes anything off) that didnt work, and then I just happened to come back to my comp to see if any responses-- And what do u know- the last thing that i tried worked! AFter 4 baths!!! I used a little bit of dawn to help get the baby oil out.. But poor kitten is traumatized-- So I may rinse it out again tomorrow.. But Thank you SOOO much.. I was beginning to think i was going to have to shave him- Which would have been fine- other then I brought him back from louisiana and its very warm there, back to colorado- which its beginning to get very cold- So I was worried about him getting chilled! But now thanks to you all He doesnt have to get shaved!! WOOO HOOOOOOO! now that my new kitten hates me
.. Lol.. Anyways thanks guys SOOOOOOOO much!

I know that was scary for you and the kitten. But I did get a laugh out of that. Ah, kittens!!! Is there anything they won't get into? Glad he's ok.
