Here's the story...

I adopted a Norwegian Forest cat (Lou) recently. He's gorgeous, healthy and just went throught his first moult - his ruff is beggining to grow back and so is his coat. My problem is that he's a cat's cat and doesn't really like humans. He doesn't bite and doesn't claw, he just shys away. His breeder says he has a nervous temperament/disposition.

So, what can I do to make him trust me??? Feliway doesn't work, handfeeding hasn't worked, the other cats love him...

Any ideas or advise, please?

Mods, if this should be in a different place, please feel free to move my thread!

Give him time - how long have you had him. Ling is flacky - she sometimes is people friendly, sometimes not - and she doesn't like hand feeding. But she loves the dog

Work with your wegie on HIS terms and slowly he might come around.

A classical is by feeding. Ie small portions but often, so you do get many interactions in short time.
You taking care of them.
Dont overdo, dont force yourself on him, let him come. Caress only when he apparently likes it. If you not sure - only a couple of strokes, is enough.

Our cats were always friendly to me, but they were Moms cats. But if I am with them alone "cat-watcher" a couple of days; giving food, water, changing litter, opening up the balcony door, caressing - they quickly comes closer. They even sleep in the night in my bed with me.

Another thing. You do have other cats who are friends with him? Do caress them in front of him! Let them show it is nice to be petted by you. Cats do learn from each others, especially when they are pals.
He perhaps will get a little jealous - and come to you because of it??
